Ive got a customer who has a split load 16th edition board. He is going to rent the property out so now wants a 17th edition board.

Is it possible to get new bushbars and internal cabling to do this and if so from where and what size cable is it, or

Do I have to take the old board down and fit a new one. Id prefer to do the first one as it saves a lot of hassle.

Thanks

Chris

I suggested that but he says they are far to expensive to replace and would rather spend a little bit more now and have cheap mcbs. I gave up with customer logic a long time ago and now if it dosent breach the regs I just agree makes them feel clever and important.

Chris

You can buy split load kits and busbars from most wholesalers.

You'll probably need another 30mA RCD too.

Space may be an issue as you will be losing another 2 ways with the new RCD how many circuits you got mate???.

Hi Lenny

Hes got 8 circuits in place and room for 4 more so the second RCD will still leave 2 spaces. Problem is he has all his sockets on one RCD and want upstair lights and downstairs sockets on one RCD and the other way round for the other RCD so if one trips he will still have power.

Ive never dealt with this before and dont know what the flexible cable size is inside the CU or where I can get it and if I can get new bars if needed.

You can buy kits like this form any wholesaler they're called split load kits. Links in Aber will have them or Cities in Carmarthen.

You may be able to re-arrange the existing links in the board best to have spares just in case.

Thanks Lenny yet again you come to the rescue, if you charged commission you would be worth millions:).

As you know where to get them do you want to get them for me or am I pushing my luck:rolleyes:

Only kidding thanks again.

Chris if he's letting the property out will he need to upgrade his smoke alarms for his insurance?

Just something to consider but u probably know better than me, the smoke shouldn't be on an RCD but stand alone RCBO?

If so you may need consider a 17th board; but you probably have enough space to do that in that board i'd imagine.

or am I just over thinking this lol

Jon.
