    You need to look at Appendix 15 section A in the regs. It clearly states 'An unfused spur may be connected to the origin of the circuit in the distribution board'.

    It is just a part of the ring though - a spur as per the regs. Yes if you removed the whole ring then it would become a radial with one point.

    But a spur on a ring can be taken from any point on the ring, including at the MCB.

    I personally wouldn't buy VDE screwdrivers of unknown origin from ebay. To be honest I wouldn't buy any screwdrivers from anything other than a known source.

    Interesting. Sounds unusual since it seems it was very lightly loaded. Not much you can do I suppose other than buy a replacement unit. Unless you fancy removing the covering and checking the windings.

    This is why I have a fan with integral pullcord in my bathroom. Most of the time, especially during summer months, the bathroom light is rarely used. And often when we do use the light, we don't need the fan on. Or you could go for a fan with a humidistat.
