    Price of joining a scheme

Based on your qualifications baddegg, your cu changes were acceptable, but they point blankly refused my application unless it was a minimum of 2 new circuits. I’m more than happy with the NICEIC now as my nieces partner does some insurance work who only accept NICEIC registered electricians to...

    Price of joining a scheme

STROMA charge £1.50 per notification, not sure about the NICEIC though. But IIRC STRONA cover you for EICR etc, but NICEIC say domestic installers AREN’T covered for EICR’s, yet I’ve been told any competent person with enough experience can do EICR’s. Check out both their sites for what you...

    Price of joining a scheme

I’m just going through joining a scheme right now got my NICEIC assessment on 13th November. STROMA is the cheapest at £280 plus VAT, but only accept minimum of 2 new circuits for you initial assessment, but NOT a CU change, unless you have your level 3 NVQ or higher. NICEIC do accept a CU...

Auto electrics - Halfords not accepting blame for tyre pressure monitoring fault

It’s quite possible that Halfords have actually damaged the TPMS valves when they removed the old or fitted the new tyres. Did you tell them the wheels had TPMS valves fitted?

Quality work by a electrical trainee.....

You could use this analogy for most things in life, like driving lessons, they only teach you how to pass the driving test, not to drive in general, that’s learnt after you pass. So should we all have been put on a special licence for the first few years? Take Firefighters for instance. Now a...

Quality work by a electrical trainee.....

I totally agree with you sparkychick, until you’ve gained at least 3+ years experience you need to have a minimum of 2 jobs inspected (after initial assessment) each year during your membership. If your membership is not continuous it starts again.

I have got a Bosch laser level, but for 1 or 2 sockets it’s quicker to just use a small spirit level.

Quality work by a electrical trainee.....

I whole heartedly agree John, but professionalism cannot be taught, you’ve either got it or you haven’t. It’s the same with attitude and common sense. My own perfectionalism (probably OCD) would never allow me to even think about doing it that way. The half a dozen jobs or so I’ve done so far...

Quality work by a electrical trainee.....

You can’t ALWAYS blame these type of poor installs on the short course electricians, but as a usual you do as it’s so easy todo so. Fully trained, time served electricians have also done some of these atrocious installs as well over the years, as can be seen on YouTube and other forums and even...

New electric cooker causing power to trip at fuse. The fuse is reluctant to flick back on after.

Do you know if there’s anything else on the kitchen spur circuit or is it exclusive to the cooker?

    2 spurs from a Junction Box....worried?

This thread has been quite an interesting read with some very healthy debates. So I’m just curious, the IET write the regulations we all adhere to right? So are all the regulations they provide us with backed up with actual facts/testing. So the regulation being discussed in the post, has...

    2 spurs from a Junction Box....worried?

Surely the way the op has done it is the same as if they’d spurred each double socket from 2 separate sockets already on the rfc? If he’d only used 1 cable from the jb to feed both double sockets, then it would be against the regs.

Have you got any old or new lengths of cable you can test your MFT with? Do you also have a ‘Calibration Card or a calibration box’? We used the Kewtech KT63 MFT in training and they’re auto-ranging.
