Hi all,
I have a single surface mounted socket in a cupboard which our freezer is plugged into. We don't have any sockets in our hall which the cupboard is off so I thought it might be useful to change the one gang socket for a two gang, again surface mounted to keep it simple.
Its on our...
Timbo, yes was almost going to do this and would maybe get away with it with one box but one of them protrudes so much that I have to shave it down so far that the wires either wouldn't fit or I'd be jamming them in which isn't good. I'll consider getting someone in to sort out, seems like its...
Edinburgh, it's not big deal it was just if I could do something myself about it. Both walls are being replastering soon so maybe the plasterer can thicken out the plaster layer a bit to reduce how much the boxes protrude.
Yeah the back boxes sorry. I think I wouldn't get all the wires inside a slimmer box though. It might be that all the wires are not required and are historic but I couldn't say. It's a shame the wires can't float in the wall and then I just put a faceplate on to indicate cables are there but I...
Hi all,
I have two 35mm deep junction boxes above two doors in our hall and the boxes protrude out from the wall. It's not a big deal but it does bug me. After investigation the boxes are screwed to a stud in the wall but the wall's are lathe and plaster and this is determining how deep the box...
Something like this?

Quite expensive, at half the price of the rail. Already have the standard element that came with it. Will have a look at the switched fused spur though
Just had a look, the electric element is rated to IP55 so I think this means it can be placed anywhere in zone 2 in theory. The towel rail will be protected by RCD but won't be on its own circuit-Not sure what defines the circuit but the MCB at least will cut the power to multiple things.
Could...
Hi all,
It seems to be normal practice to mount electric timers outside the bathroom, but so long as its outside zone 2 a towel rail timer can be inside the bathroom? I'd rather have it inside the bathroom than visible in the hall.
We're planning to have the towel rail less than 60cm...
Thanks guys, both look reasonable. As much as I like the idea of wifi control i'm a bit worried that it's weirdly not a future proof option, they may stop developing the app, phone OS's change and no longer support old phones or old app's. With a box on the wall you've got no issues. Wow i'm...
Hi all,
Anyone got any recommendations for a timer for a towel rail. Timer will be outside the bathroom and would prefer a digital version. I've used a few before but some are a bit tortuous to program.
Thanks a lot
Hi all,
I have an interest in hobby electronics but would like to learn more about household electrics. Can anyone recommend any books, i'd consider a course but think they're not really for people not looking to become an electrician, at least not unless I get really into it.
I've considered...
I have managed to get a simple cabinet key (circular with one groove at the top). Looking on youtube it seems I may be able to use this to turn the mechanism along with a thin metal rod to release the tensioned pins in sequence. But I will get on a ladder and make sure the door isn't just...
Its a bit informal from what I have experienced. We as owners have to arrange all communal repairs and you can follow a Tenement Management Scheme but its basically a set of guidelines on how to maintain shared/areas. But essentially its for us to spot issues and then someone contacts the rest...
Thanks all, i'll have a think. I will probably change the starters at the same time but yes I guess if the lights are off which they are during the day then I can probably access the luminaires without them being live. I have a voltage tester just in case. I may contact the council for advice...
