Which way electricity will flow ?

While Ted googles that (or not I suspect), you could google Kirchoff's law.

    Annual surveillance visit looming

He did that thing again of insisting my handover documentation for ST & HP was to the latest standard (4.1) even though that standard does not come into force for another month! It meant a hasty addition on the fly to a commissioning certificate.

    Annual surveillance visit looming

Cheerful. Assessment done and dusted in one day with no non-conformities. I was beginning to think I never would get none again after the last 2 visits! I think the assessor and I must have worked out how to handle each other.

    Annual surveillance visit looming

I am due my annual MCS surveillance visit by Napit in a couple of days so going through paperwork at present. Two quick things: - I was missing my 2015 RECC membership certificate. I had an email from RECC saying they would collect the direct debit in December, but they failed to do so and I...

    Flat roof

It was a random american photo I picked off google to make the point. But I have seen similar systems advertised here.

    Flat roof

You might say I am not listening, but what about this with ridges north south?

    Flat roof

I would echo Gavin's last point about having some slope. The Solion system is flatter than the Console (only 10 degrees). Why must the panels be flat?

Renusol Console as an example. Plenty of suppliers.

Old Buildings, EPC's Insulation Improvements and the RHI payments

The tiering was done deliberately because it was a way ensuring plant owners did not over-produce heat just to get the rhi payment. Presumably that means tier 1 is designed to be above the marginal cost of producing the heat so it is paying back the additional capital cost involved in biomass...

Old Buildings, EPC's Insulation Improvements and the RHI payments

You are right there is lots of scope for optimising. I had a similar situation recently. External solid wall insulation was put in after the heat pump. We commissioned the heat pump and client had to apply for the rhi before the second epc reflecting a more efficient house was generated, which...

Nin compliant Install by another installer and fraid by customer.

I had not thought about the biomass reasoning before but had on the gshp. My thinking was that as the only external work was underground loops, they took the view that was unlikely to affect the character of a listed building. So for gshp/wshp I thought it was deliberate. That is not...

    New Build and EPC's

For new builds/self builds, you should be commissioning the solar pv, solar thermal, heat pumps etc before it will be signed off by building control or an approved inspector, because they will be expecting to see the commissioning certificates if those systems were on the original plans/building...

PPSs are dead - long live the NPPF and PPG

Nin compliant Install by another installer and fraid by customer.

Oddly, the permitted developement rights are not removed for a listed building looking at SI2056/2011 Part 40 Class E. It may well fall foul of other more general listed building law if it affects the character of the listed building, but the PD rights were not specifically removed for biomass...

    RHI / MCS 4 ASHPs - 4 flats - 4 submeters and 1 main meter (MPAN)

A call to the mcs helpline will soon establish whether x4 ashp can be on the same mpan. I suspect they can. I doubt the mcs registration process checks an mpan has not been used for a particular technology before. Certainly you can have more than one mcs pv system on a single mpan. The more...

    Solar panel circuit MCB size?

Wow, this thread took off a bit. Personally I would be happy with dc cables running through my house properly protected/signed and prefer to have the inverter sited in a cool, convenient position rather than say in the loft. If a customer still managed to drill into them, then put it down to...

    Solar panel circuit MCB size?

There can be a problem with mcbs running hot near maximum rated current. Manufacturers' websites go into more detail. As the cable size for 4 kW PV is generally recommended to be 4 mm2 or larger, there is normally scope for a larger mcb.

    Solar panel circuit MCB size?

A 16 A mcb is a reasonable starting point for a system that has a nominal 16 A output. But it could mean running the mcb near maximum for many hours in the summer. When in doubt read the manual! ABB recommend 20 A for the 3.6TL and 25 A for the 4.2TL SMA recommend up to 32 A for their range...

Multiple small systems on same building.

Mr Kirchoff thinks it will all sort itself out! Is the 6.3 kW all on one phase or split across 3. If the supply impedance is low enough to take that input it will sort itself out.
