    SWA questions, doubting electrician

I take it that's under the consumer unit? If so I very much doubt it will reach unless there's an amount of slack to redo this with a correct gland & banjo without either renewing it or a join or isolator of some kind.

    SWA questions, doubting electrician

Actually I'm looking at those board pictures once more can you look at the other end of the terminated cables and post photos? Can't help thinking that's not SWA and maybe just Hi Tuff or similar

At least £15 per hour, if you can do Testing & Inspecting even single phase perhaps more.

    SWA questions, doubting electrician

I'd put money on it being the Neutral Earth being terminated the wrong way round causing The RCD to instantly trip if somethings plugged in ? Given this chap has used what sounds like Stuffing Glands to terminate an SWA instead of the correct Glands maybe he wasn't capable of stripping the...

I Need Work Completed all qualifications

I'd approach a few Electrical wholesalers that are in contact with electricians and advertise your services as an Electricians mate learning on the tools and assisting as weekends or whenever you can to pick it up. Is there anything in particular you want to learn?

    Incompetant Person Y French Electrician

I found that Meter you've ordered to be ok for Testing ELI tests but the RCD test was erratic and often wouldn't work. I used one for basic tests on Radial circuits when I installed mobile comms racks .

How to enable a 220V connection from the meter?

Normally it's utilising two 110 phases combined, looks a strange set up.

    Interesting talk with DNO engineer

I work as a Maintenance Electrician on Highways (not street lighting). I won't go into great detail but we have cabinets with DNO fuses and a meter then normally a two pole isolator. I've been doing this role for almost two years, We were transferred / Tuped across to another firm who tendered...

Veto Pro pac , are they worth it ?

I have used CK Tote bags and they lose shape after a while and the elastic stretches. Colleagues I've had have used the CK backpacks and had zips fail after a number of months and they've had the same issues with the Technician case. The Veto is a solid piece of kit and holds lots more than it...

When did neutral at the light switch become standard practice?

I think it depends on the lighting. Much of new stuff is spots or similar without the need to use ceiling Roses so easier to terminate in Switch back boxes, especially if a deeper one.

    SWA (Surprisingly Weird Arrangement)

How far is this run exactly? The 1.5mm must be derated by a chunk large or small? Can't understand why 2.5mm or 4mm wasn't used. This should have been on an RCD or RCBO from the off even under the 16th Edition if an outdoor socket was indeed installed back then.

Electrical installation certification software, which is best??

I currently use Amtech, seems easier enough to use (Trimble) . Though i work on Highways so half of the forms aren't really needed for me. You can input lots of different clients and save templates and create drafts. You can use a PC or a Fast Test App on Ipads. There's nothing to stop you...

RCD in consumer unit keeps popping, replaced with new one, still same issue

The shower is still working but doesn't get used? The Neutral and earth are still connected even if the MCB is switched off (others have mentioned this). When RCDs trip I always think water or poor insulation resistance. I'd be tempted to remove the shower neutral & earth (and tape up) in the...

One way of earthing the pipes.....

Personally I'd have tucked the Tails behind the pipe to the left of the new Board then it could be clipped to the wall and there is also what looks like a ring final floating too. Also I can't see why the bonds on the pipes aren't nearer/next to each other? Where's the MET? Maybe another photo...

    using power tools on site

I use 18V Makita, can't fault it apart from the wheels on the bag have fallen off. Much of European workers use 230 Volt tools with RCD & RCBO protection on the continent. All a bit grey really but: HSE : 480 If mains voltage has to be used, the risk of injury is high if equipment, tools...
