I usually code no spd with no code or a C3.
However I have been sent to check compliance with BS 7671 on some new builds, there is no SPD present.
We usually say the date installed does not make a difference to coding but it does in a way.
The same may apply if Arc Fault Detection Device not...
we have had installed some Hagar ARM932U Arc Fault Detection Device in one of our care homes.
they had reported tripping issues , so i tried to do an (RCD) Residual Current Device test.
it wont trip at any current.
looking it up it seems they are not also an rcbo . if so whats the point of them...
just wondered how everyone else would code this lamp post.
the original installer made a type of swa gland from copper pipe and a BS88 clamp.
they also issued a 12 year inspection date.
its all just a thought exercise now as i have added a proper lamp post cut out with swa 20s glands.
During an eicr i found that all of the lockable sockets had reverse polarity , presumably from the manufacturer .
Of course this also questions the installation electrician and testing or lack thereof .
Has anyone else encountered this ?
One of our contractors has identified a concern with multiple showers on a single 100 amp supply.(unsure how many yet i have asked for further infomation)
They have asked our company for a solution (which means me!).
Other than getting a 3 phase supply in the only other way is a shower priority...
its not due a test until november 2024 , but in one of our block of flats ,a schneider 24 way db has been installed on the right hand side of a tight cupboard.
the door is hinged on the left.
schneider dont make a right hinged door.
im mostly out of ideas other than getting the original...
after changing a consumer unit I have a high level flood light and photocell that can’t be reached.
on the EICR I can LIM these due to height .
the photocell is a NEMA plastic double insulated type
the floodlight however is a SON-T and I suspect its a metal case !
I have a small Consumer Unit fed from a 6 amp type B mcb to a 6 amp type B,it only feeds 1 light in a bin store .
clearly we have no selectivity here ,would changing the feed mcb to a type C possibly 10 amp help achieve this?
its only on 1.5 swa so I can’t go too high ,my ZDB is 1.05 ohms
As above the chest level from ground ,metal ANPR housing has no connection to earth ,it has monitors modems and a camera inside with a 230 volt supply run from out totem pole lighting . Its on a 6 amp rcbo.
the ZS measures 1.93 ohms
cpc to metal case measures 158 ohms so its an extraneous...
any BS 5839 experts know whether CO alarms should be connected to the smoke/heat alarm system ? after completing an efixx CPD it seems they should not be , however multi alarms detectors exist with an optical and CO alarm in one unit and while that unit on the aico lights up to indicated CO or...
Has anyone used one of these KT1700 - Kewtech - https://www.kewtechcorp.com/products/kt1700/
and are they approved in place of the usual 2 pole testers?
During an EICR I have come across a metal tap and copper pipes supplied by a blue plastic pipe.
This measures 0.022 MegOhms, this is directly under the consumer unit which is metal.
Is this an extranous conductive part?
On a TT system the rcd must operate withing 0.2 seconds for many circuits. Why when we test rcd's does it not say 300ms for TN systems or 200 ms for TT systems?
It's coming out anyway so it's a rhetorical question.
What do you you all think of this?
Bits of wire used to bridge the bus bars and don't single phase consumer units need a linked switched line and neutral?
Just to notify all those who have not been informed about the Corrigendum to BS_7671:2018+A2:2022 ,This will be published on may 15th 2023.
it seems safety services in 443.4.1 is redefined with some examples removed !
701.1 no longer references birthing pools.
i expect we will find out more...
