Replacement strain relief clamp strip for large junction box

As I had nothing suitable to hand this afternoon, I rearranged my cables and found a way to handle them all with the existing strain relief. However, thanks for those comments and suggestions. The cheap cord grip with the expensive postage would unfortunately have been too narrow.

Replacement strain relief clamp strip for large junction box

I am doing some rewiring within the large junction box used for my central heating and hot water controls, which requires me to make use of two additional cable entry points. Unfortunately, many years ago the original installer threw away the flexible brown strips that were used as strain relief...

Is it advisable to feed a 1,600 Watt Quooker heater from a ring main spur?

I also used to think that the Quooker was for the "terminally gullible" and was of little use to me, as my wife never drinks tea and I only have one cup a day (I prefer drinking espresso coffee). However, my wife is a keen cook and realised that she boiled water quite frequently for other...

Is it advisable to feed a 1,600 Watt Quooker heater from a ring main spur?

Whatever style of junction box I choose for this installation will remain accessible. I'm assuming that each Wago connector provides a join between all the individual wires plugged into their sockets. A total of 6 two-way connectors would then permit a ring extension. Are the 24A Wago WA 202...

Is it advisable to feed a 1,600 Watt Quooker heater from a ring main spur?

All my traditional 30A junction boxes have only 3 terminals and I have no experience of using more up-to-date products such as Wago. Exactly what make/model of junction box are you suggesting would allow for extending the ring?

Is it advisable to feed a 1,600 Watt Quooker heater from a ring main spur?

I will soon be installing a 1,600 Watt Quooker hot water heater for which a new 13A socket will be required. A ring main cable passes behind the kitchen cabinet that houses the sink and I have the choice of either inserting a single junction box into the ring and feeding the new socket via a...

Should garage have secondary consumer unit? + Best way to extend power from garage to shed?

I'm not entirely clueless on these matters, having personally rewired all three of the houses we have occupied over the past 47 years. The current house was done just before Part P came in and I had my work checked by an inspector from our electricity supplier (he said I had done a good job). I...

Should garage have secondary consumer unit? + Best way to extend power from garage to shed?

The loading in the shed will be minimal. Lighting is the primary requirement. The power socket is more of a just-in-case item and is unlikely to get much use. The only serious bit of electrical equipment that gets used in the garden is a big Nilfisk power washer (230v 2.9kW) and that would...

Should garage have secondary consumer unit? + Best way to extend power from garage to shed?

I've not yet made any attempt to check the size of the SWA cable feeding the garage. A local registered electrician has already given me a quotation to extend power from the garage to the shed, by simply installing a new SWA cable from the back of the existing garage socket. I'm just trying to...

Should garage have secondary consumer unit? + Best way to extend power from garage to shed?

A dedicated 20A type C MCB located in the consumer unit in my house feeds power to my detached brick-built double garage via an underground armoured cable. This MCB is one of a group that is controlled by an 80A RCD. There is no additional MCB protection within the garage. The incoming...

Best way to bend 25mm PVC conduit?

That's interesting. I was wondering why my spring has a red marking! On the few occasions in the past when I have needed to bend conduit, I used a hand-held heat gun, but never got good results, as I always overheated the pipe. This was probably because I couldn't bend the pipe at the same time...

Best way to bend 25mm PVC conduit?

As I posted here two days ago, I bought a new MK-branded 25mm bending spring that solved my problem with bending MK heavy duty conduit. The spring packaging did not state if it was intended for thick-walled tubing, but it did the job.

Best way to bend 25mm PVC conduit?

I will try that next time I bend some conduit!

Best way to bend 25mm PVC conduit?

The internal diameter of my 25mm conduit is actually 21.5mm, so my old spring appeared to be quite a close match and it didn't seem likely to me that a small increase in spring diameter would make a big difference. I was wrong. A new MK-branded 25mm bending spring, whose diameter is about 1mm...

Best way to bend 25mm PVC conduit?

I've looked at the video showing how to bend pipe using hot sand, but I'm guessing that most people manage to do the job using a bending spring.

Best way to bend 25mm PVC conduit?

I am more than happy to buy a new spring designed for PVC conduit if that is the most likely solution to my problem. My current spring leaves only 0.5mm clearance all round and I wasn't sure if a slightly tighter fitting spring would really make much difference. Once I get the proper tool, is...

Best way to bend 25mm PVC conduit?

From time to time, I have a need to put a fairly gentle bend into 25mm PVC conduit. Past attempts to do this using nothing but a bending spring (originally bought for 22mm copper pipe) were not successful. I found that I could do the job if I warmed up the conduit with a heat gun, but have never...

Can you extend ring cabling with terminal strip inside socket back box?

I got a packet of Ideal SpliceLine In-Line Wire Connectors from SF today and they appear to do a very good job. It's certainly a much more convenient alternative to traditional terminal strips. Many thanks for that suggestion from telectrix :)

Can you extend ring cabling with terminal strip inside socket back box?

Those do look like much better solutions than my original idea of using a terminal block, so many thanks for those suggestions. I shall pay a visit to Screwfix tomorrow.
