I will have to replace the whole run or change the supply protective device. I suggested 10mm T&E as he will have a heat pump, pool pump, socket circuit and lighting. Would that sound reasonable and would T&E be ok? I normally use SWA for this sort of thing.
The protective device can be increased in size but currently 40A. The new distance is 10 metres. The sub-DB will supply the air source heat pump, pool pump, garage socket circuit and a lighting circuit.
He wants to see if I can utilise the existing 4mm T&E supply but I'm not really happy with this as my cable calc suggests it's not big enough. He is happy to change the protective device supplying the DB.
Client currently has a DB in his outhouse. It feeds a pool pump and an air source heat pump. It is currently being supplied using a 4mm T&E cable. He wants the DB moved to his garage. It will still supply the two pumps but also a socket circuit in the garage. Having done my cable calcs, 4mm will...
Under amendment 2 of the BS7671, there is now a requirement to fit an SPD as standard.
I am due to install a new outdoor socket circuit on an old consumer unit which doesn't have an SPD. Is it ok to do this installation without the SPD?
Thanks westward10.
So, on the schedule of inspections, I just answer the questions in relation to the new circuit not the old ones? And on the schedule of test results, just fill out the test results from the new circuit? I could also write about the other circuits not being protected by RCD in...
A client wants an outdoor socket installing on a new circuit. The current installation doesn't have any RCDs for the other circuits. I would put the new circuit on an RCBO but I'm concerned about signing off the installation with the other circuits not protected by RCD. Anyone know what the...
The oven was on the same type of RCBO (different manufacturer) before the CU change. Seems odd that it's only tripping when cooling down. Sounds to me like a faulty part in the oven (cooing fan/element issue). Just want to be sure it wasn't the CU change that caused this. Any suggestions?
I've just installed a new kitchen consumer unit with RCBOs. The client says the oven RCBO is now tripping when it cools down. Any ideas what could be causing this?
Thanks for that. If the cable distance is 60 metres using 6mm, I would have to limit the Zappi to a max output of approximately 5.8kW (25 Amps) so as to avoid an excessive voltage drop. This would be the max output without anything else running in the outbuildings. Is this correct?
Any other...
Thanks for the input guys. As suspected, it looks like it'll need a separate supply to be safe. I will suggest running another larger cable for the EV ?.
It's a Zappi which can utilise the solar but my concern is if the charger is pulling 32A at night with a couple of electric heaters in the outbuildings. I don't think 6mm will be big enough?
I'm looking at installing a 7kW EV charger on an outbuilding with the following characteristics:
EV charger will be 60 metres from the main fuse where there is an initial small consumer unit in the meter cupboard.
Currently there are 2 extra small consumer units for each outbuilding, each with...
I'm looking at doing a CU change. Current main earthing and bonding conductors are both 6mm. Tails are 16mm on a 60/80 amp fuse (TNCS). ZE = 0.1 , 230v, single cable not bunched.
Looking at the regs (543.1.1) and applying the adiabatic equation (543.1.3), 6mm seems ok for main earthing...
I am considering fitting a car charger using 6mm SWA to a new isolator switch in the meter cupboard and then 6mm T&E to the CU. It would save running the SWA all the way to the CU. Does anyone else do this and if so, which isolator is best for SWA? Thanks
Newbie Question:
What’s the general consensus with cutting the main fuse seal for a consumer unit change? I’m aware of the requirement to contact the DNO, but just wondering what the done thing is in practical terms?
The logistics of getting the DNO to cut the fuse can be impractical...
