    Earth rod and bonding

I've just done an EICR on an install earthed TT . The Ze on the rod was high 245 ohms , which in theory is fine as it is less than 1667 and the equation Ra X 0.03 > 50v is satisfied . When the gas and water bonds are reconnected the Ze drops down to 4.4 ohms , Do I put another rod in ? The...

    low M-ohm

doing an Ins resistance test across all circuits at the CU with load bridged out( L-N shorted ) I have a low reading - 1.03M ohm . after investigation found this low reading goes once the boiler spur is isolated . any one had similar results ? this is not the first time ive had appliances give...

    installation cert

he had been to do a board change 3 months ago for which a inst cert had been done This time tenant needed a washing machine point put in which the spark said would be easier to fit rather than supply it off the existing ring . circuit details should be filled in as much as possible ?

    installation cert

received an installation cert from one of the sparks , it was for a new circuit for a washing machine he installed on an exisiting domestic CU , just want to know how much info should be included on the circuit details and results page . Ive informed him to go back and record all the circuits...

    IR test

Some advice please . when doing IR test , generally i test the lighting circuit with the load shorted (L-N) and test across earth and live or neutral as removing all lamps and disconnecting fluorscents is time consuming . now and again i will test the whole CU in this way . Firstly , why is it...

    Supplementary equipotential bonding

Could I have some clarification on this issue , the tight customer does not want a new CU , so the only option is supp bonding the bathroom , from what I've read is link the hot and cold copper pipes and the rad and that's it . Bs7671 does not require a link from the supp bond to a cpc on...

    Tncs or TT ?

Does the DNO change TT systems into tncs by changing the head to a tncs cut out and providing met? The Ze I measured was 0.60 and when main earth reconnected reding of 0.40 on the met . There is an earth electrode and 30 mA rcd as a main switch . Is this a TT system or tncs ?

    Wylex main switch

Hi , could someone help me please , I did an eicr yesterday. Few questions now the ccu is the old Wylex board with push in type mcb's 3871 type , what is the main switch bs en number ? Can I say its a limitation as it's not evident ? the Ze I recorded is 0.63 ohms it's a tncs , is this a c2 or...

test rig with fault causing fault elsewhere

It would seem that some people have got the wrong impression about what the aim of this test rig is about , to clarify , basically want to show the first steps , and the only ones necessary for tenants to put their supply back on in the case of say a lamp causing the rcd to trip out , thats it ...

test rig with fault causing fault elsewhere

:confused5: I have been asked to wire up a couple of CU on plug tops on a display for tenants to show how to go about basic fault finding before they send for a call out . I used 2 wylex boards , one with dual rcd and one with none . I put a neutral earth fault but that resulted in the plug...

    9.5 kw shower on 6mm ?

just been to a job , saw that the shower 9.5 kw is on 6mm t&e the cable goes in the wall and under floor boards ,No insulation, to the board (A cable run of no more than 10 m) . I said downgrade the shower to 8.5 max. Is it really necessary ? never quite sure , its borderline to me .

Who is the best to register with ?

Well then i'll just take the cheapest option . personally i think niceic have advertised themselves as the "be all and end all" of domestic electrical which is unfortunately BS , I have a 2391 cert and tbh thought it was my ticket to prove that I am competent enough to put my signature on a cert...

PIR or not to PIR ?

does anyone know why/how a PIR done by a 2391 spark (not part of a scheme) is acceptable to LABC and yet an installation cert done by the same spark(for notifiable work) needs to be backed up by membership to a scheme ? I understand that some work is notifiable , would it be acceptable to supply...
