It's with regret I have to inform you, Christina (Sparkychick) has passed

Didn't know her personally but always appreciated her knowledgeable posts, she was definitely one of the ones you always took notice of if she contributed. Very sad news, RIP

    Granny charge point

Yes Thanks, I had found that Hager socket but having priced up that with a type B RCD and a PEN fault device and installing a dedicated circuit and all associated enclosures etc seemed as I said ...pointless as you would then be not far off the realms of having a proper EV charger installed..the...

    Granny charge point

I'll start by saying I don't install EV chargers and have not kept up to any great extent on regs changes etc but an existing customer has asked for a 13a socket for her EV granny charger in a 2nd home. (the previous outdoor socket has melted!). After doing a bit of reading including 722 I have...

Supply Isolator required to be metal on TT

I totally agree, on a new TT install or a replacement CU I pretty much always install a Wylex 'S' type RCD upfront in a Wylex Isolator enclosure (plastic) which fits perfectly and has restraint for the tails built in, has the bonus of fault protection for submains or other circuits you might...

    Will you vote?

That's if cash survives this government...! Not to mention all manner of limits to freedom of speech that may be coming that would criminalise dissent from 'The Party Line' on important issues around race , gender and goodness knows what else and also the devolution of power from elected...

    Boiler Fault

Pretty sure a Grant Vortex is an oil fired combi and these do require a HW programmer to prevent them firing up 24/7 as they cycle to maintain their fairly large volume of internally stored HW. Does sound like the link you mention might be overriding the roomstat, is this a newly installed system?

    Will you vote?

Agreed, good news. He will be a strong and consistent force in The House when the lefties start collapsing with all their in-fighting.

    Will you vote?

But a protest nonetheless, in the absence of the option to vote for none of the above. In my constituency the Tories have held the seat since absolutely forever and have just lost by a large majority to the Limp-dums, I know anecdotally that this is down to protest voting, the message however...

    Will you vote?

Not sure if you mean UK or Australia, but it is not illegal in the UK

    Will you vote?

It does send a message though if an extraordinary number of people spoil their ballots, it's an expression of disgust of the parlous state of politics and politicians in this country. I don't really believe in tactical voting, I think you should vote with your conscience and there is nobody...

    What is this 1970s fuseboard?

Don't know if it's just me but whenever I see some stout old kit like this out there still giving faithful service my first thought is: 'How can I get away with keeping this?' getting harder and harder to find the work-arounds of course..

    What is this 1970s fuseboard?

Very robust circuit breakers, John Ward has done some content on them on Youtube, only potential pitfall is relatively low breaking capacity (3KA if memory serves) shouldn't be a problem in nearly all cases, although difficulty in providing RCD protection would see that board replaced in the...

    Unusual lighting wiring?

Yes still see the odd red white and blue out in the wild, usually without cpc, iirc that colour code was only used for a short time...could be wrong.. I remember thinking at the time the colours changed that there would be confusion down the line, the classic for me is when you have a lighting...

    Unusual lighting wiring?

They're just in the wrong order in the cable, standard 3c flat cable is , brown, black, cpc, grey..

    Unusual lighting wiring?

I think the drawing is probably correct without the extra black..old colours are as above, Red, Yellow, Blue corresponding to the current Brown, Black, Grey (L1,L2,L3) although confusingly that image shown by @Avo Mk8 is not quite right methinks..!

    Electrical Improver Interview

Beware of employers who will take advantage of your inexperience to pay you less and then throw you in at the deep end, sending you out on jobs you aren't really ready for. This happened to me, many moons ago when I was in your position and although I can now look back on it as a baptism of fire...

    Unusual lighting wiring?

Yes , I was going to say , have done this multiple times myself and also seen it done existing by others, it's handy for keeping number of cables down in locations where routing of cables is difficult , it's also pretty straightforward to work out what's going on, with a bit of basic testing...

Afaik the compact RCBOs will not fit any legacy boards (eg NSB) as they have yet another different busbar arrangement
