Off grid consumer unit protection query

Not sure what you’re getting at? Is that adequate protection (300mA) for the supply into the house though, would it not need to be 30mA? Why would the installers not fitted this?

Off grid consumer unit protection query

I’m at a house just now, the guy has decided to go off grid, got a company in to take care of all that side of things. There’s a shed outside with all singing all dancing off grid solar kit (looks like the inside of a space ship!). The company took an SWA supply from there into the property &...

    UFH mat in bathroom

Was in a quick look this afternoon & asked them. They weren’t aware of it. Was actually 5 years ago it was done, I’ve picked them up wrong re it being 1 year ago. I wasn’t back in the attic space today but will inspect the wire that’s in free air when I’m there next time. It’s turned off for...

    UFH mat in bathroom

Sorry should have said excess is probably a good 5-6 metres on top of ply in attic.

    UFH mat in bathroom

Was at a job yesterday & whilst running cables for lighting in a side attic space I came across something I’ve not see before (not surprisingly). The couple had a new bathroom installed last year & by the looks of it whoever installed the underfloor heat mat, they never measured the UFH mat...

    Appliances in bathroom cupboard

It’s to be a proper partition with a bi-fold door going on it. There is a bathroom window, a fan in the main bathroom & have suggested a fan in the cupboard as well. I’ve tried screen shotting the picture first time round, won’t upload, says the file iss too big.

    Appliances in bathroom cupboard

Seems to be a lot of conflicting views online about this. Know someone who’s getting a new bathroom and are keen to put washing machine and tumble dryer in a cupboard in bathroom. My question is does the partition & door class it as another room? Outside zones? Tried to upload picture but won’t...

    Boiler Fault

Meant to give an update Friday night but forgot. Have proven it’s not the programmer or stat. It’s firing 240v on the CH pump terminal out of nowhere, even when there is no call for heat & 240v at the CH terminal. Could it be PCB problem? Like I said, it’s not happening at all when the DHW is off.

    Boiler Fault

Grant Vortex Combi 26e. Aye this sounds like the setup. It’s been in for years, new tenants just moved in so no idea if it’s always been like this. Link been removed today & still no different, all that does is cut the CH pump out.

    Boiler Fault

I’m hoping someone can help with this boiler problem. Couple have just moved into a house that has a Grant Vortex combi boiler. The current setup is a two channel programmer, turn the heating on at programmer & it calls for heat at stat that then returns to CH terminal inside boiler. Hot water...

    Boiler in bathroom/Carbon Monoxide detector

Not sure what to do here. I am wiring detectors for someone, boiler is in a small cupboard in the bathroom. Too small to fit the detector as it won’t be 1-3m away & I can’t fit it in the bathroom. What’s best, to fit it outside the bathroom? Stupid place to have a bloody boiler!

    EICR code re conduit

Sorry I maybe didn’t explain it very well. There are earths at sockets & switches through the twin CPC’s yes. What had been noted was that now that the new boxes weren’t attached to the conduit like the old now defunct boxes were there was cable passing through unearthed conduit.

    EICR code re conduit

Have been asked to do remedials on an EICR that was carried out a year or so ago by another electrician. Curious to know what code you would give for the following. The system used to be conduit & singles but was rewired in twin at some point. By the looks of it the conduits were cut at top &...

    Wet UFH/ Radiator system

Thanks for the replies. I’ll see what kit the plumber has & take it from there.

    Wet UFH/ Radiator system

What’s the best setup for a system that has a heating system with existing radiators but a wet underfloor heating system is being added to a new extension. I will need a 3 channel programmer I assume? The plumber mentioned having it on all the time but just working on/off the independent stat in...

    Advice needed on customer

First of all thanks for your help, good to get different views. Panic over! They’ve decided they will go ahead & get the work done. They said they weren’t against getting the board replaced they just thought the extra work would involve running 10mm earth through lobby where there’s laminate...

    Advice needed on customer

Sorry, forgot to reply to the other parts. Building control not involved no. I billed the customer for the other electricians work then paid him. I could swap the main switch for an RCD main switch as there’s only 4 circuits, this would keep the price down but I’m no keen to have the whole house...

    Advice needed on customer

He did test the circuits he worked on. The problem is the lack of RCD protection which I was hoping to change the following week.

    Advice needed on customer

Yes I get that you’re not meant to energise without protection being up to scratch. The problem being the kitchen had to get ahead as the kitchen firm had it booked in that week, I’d hoped to be back the following week to swap the board over. There was no new circuits added, just a few extra...

    Advice needed on customer

Priced to do kitchen electrics & mains board upgrade for someone a while back, they accepted my price. I explained that the mains needed changed as there was no RCD protection & prior to upgrade I’d carry out an EICR on the installation & if any C1 or C2 observations were made these would need...
