Are singles the same as the conductors within twin and earth, just with the grey outer removed?

Lucien may well have contributed, but it was gruff, accurate reply of Davesparks I remember.

Sounds like the one. Didn't realise it was you that got told off :D It's a shame he's gone, I valued his knowledge, and I liked his no nonsense style.

Are singles the same as the conductors within twin and earth, just with the grey outer removed?

Interesting read, and nice to be reminded of one of many of @Richard Burns informative answers, but no that wasnt the one. It definitely had Davesparks in the thread.

Thanks for that littlespark. Just the ammo I needed for an over zealous customer!

Are singles the same as the conductors within twin and earth, just with the grey outer removed?

I vaguely remember a thread in which someone said they had removed the grey outer on twin and earth, so they could run the line and neutral as singles in conduit. I also vaguely remember Davesparks (missed member!) explaining why this wasn't OK, but I can't remember why? Are singles (designed...

Does SWA need RCD on a TT?

I know the answer, at least I think I do as I am now questioning myself! It's just I've seen a few jobs recently where the electrician (or who ever did the job) did not give any fault protection to the armoured cable, so I am wondering if I am missing something? The most recent example from...

    Is it safe to spur?

Alan, that looks really dodgy having a the same label over 2 breakers. You're posting in the electricians part of the form so I'm guessing you are an electrician. I'd swap this to the DIY section if that's not the case, you'll get more relaxed answers. Just get your testers out, make sure its a...

Any experience with Optima Electrical Training

You sound very genuine Danny, and I believe you because I tend to believe everyone. What made you you join up specifically to say this though? @OLG0824 Did you start the training with Optima? Feedback is always good as it helps others in a similar position.

    Duplicate posts

That must be your least helpful post ever @westward10 , or maybe your cleverest. oops.. all I saw was the screenshot, not the little question at the top :D I don't get all that writing. Just a small error message.

Any suggestions for avoiding the duplicate posts that keep happening? I'm trying to delete mine, but there are alot!

    Borrowed earth

I don't think Westward is suggesting the existing cpc is 4mm. He is saying the new earth pinched from the ring will need to be 4mm.

Both replies have basically said the same thing :)

What is your hourly rate as a self employed electrician? (2024-25)

Within the last 2 days I've had 2 small quotes, charged at £75 first hour, then £50. The customers didn't even blink. Both jobs accepted. I think half the time it's just changing our own mind set about what a high price is.

So, basically, your welcome post is to say that you are awesome :D ;)

What is your hourly rate as a self employed electrician? (2024-25)

It's getting more interesting now more are voting. The £40 - £49 band is still by far the most popular, but the rest of the votes are now far more spaced out. I expect this is partly due to regional variation, although that's almost ridiculous to say given the small population of results.

    Free Labour/Cleaning: South Devon

Good luck Gareth. I spent 15 years as a nurse. I've now been an electrician for almost 15 years and am VERY pleased I made the change. Just keep trying, you'll find someone eventually.

    Extraneous conductive part test

If you can see a piece of plastic entering from the ground then (as cliff said), it does not need main bonding. I think (not sure) this is reg 411.3.2 It says something along the lines of 'metallic pipes having an insulating section where they enter the house need not be connected to the main...
