Just a bit of reassurance for those of you who are about to be assessed for the first time, and some advice for those who are already registered.

The initial assessment takes around 3 - 4 hours. Subsequent assessments around 1.5 hours. They are definitely not out to fail you, they want your money. Virtually everybody passes.

Open, read and deal with the link the assessor sends you as this will tell you everything you need to have ready.

I always get asked about testing sequences.. Sometimes I get asked for the whole sequence, I.e continuity of CPC, continuity of ring final conductors (you must remember the 3 steps), IR, polarity, Zs, PFC/PSCC, RCD tests.

Sometimes they just ask what are the 3 steps of the ring final conductor tests. Just remember the whole testing sequence and you cant go wrong.

Go through the correct procedure for safe isolation. We don't always do it exactly by the book on site, so go through it again and again just before the assessment.

New bits... Seal around the back entry knockout of the CU if you have used back entry (unless the CU is on a brick/stone wall with the cables chased in).

Hi thanks for info .what about test sheets.how much are they expecting to see .I have everything else in place ,risk assesments, waste, etc.im planning on having 7 or 8 test sheets along with invoices over a period of a year for the guy to see .not to mention the test sheet for rewire I'm being assessed on.i only work limited hours as my son is autistic but they are aware of that .thanks for info on back entry seals, wasn't an issue last time .did you still get the 4 questions on regs .I'm not worried about the testing its the paper work side I tend to let slip .thanks in advance.im not going to ask you what you pay a year but I'm paying 1200 plus they charged me 130 just to upload hse documents which initially they said would be free .

With regards test sheets, this is a difficult one to say with certainty as each assessor is different and they sometimes ask for different things. This year my assessor just wanted to see the EIC for the job I was showing him (rewire). He did ask how many notifiable jobs I had done since I was last assessed, and also how many smaller jobs I had done (requiring a MWC), but crucially he did not ask to see any of these certificates. However, the time before when I was assessed i was asked to provide literally every EIC and MWC...... but.... before you get too worried, I did not send them in and they did not follow up on this.

The point being, different assessors can sometimes ask for different things, plus Napit changes what they want sometimes.

As for payment, I just do domestic and pay £580 (or something like that).

Also, don't get scared about the back entry seal. This is something new that they are being hot on and they are very likely to give you a pass this year. I cant guarantee this but mine did. I shall certainly start sealing though, as next year it may be classed as a non conformity. My assessor mentioned 3 ways of sealing, 2 of which he said were rubbish as you couldn't remove the seal, meaning adding any new cables would be a nightmare. The third (and best) option was some kind of removeable electrical putty.

That's reassuring, my assessor is a decent guy ,same guy as last time so hopefully all goes well .he did pick me up on my brand new mft calibration date!.I never bothered to read the calibration cert when I bought it as it was only a few months old.turns out it had been sitting in warehouse for over a year and was out of date .luckily there was a note at bottom of cert saying calibration should be deemed to have started on date of purchase or something to that effect .I showed him my receipt and proof of purchase and it was fine .thanks for the advice appreciate it
