Hey,
I have a shed in my garden that was built and wired up by my granddad a lonnng time ago and it currently uses 2 core/twin and earth cable but the cable is red and black - I believe it's 2.5mm as it's for two plug sockets and a couple of lights (existing).
I'm wanting to come off the...
Replacing 15 year old FAR Italian manifolds (2 downstairs, 1 up) with new Warmup units. However, old actuators have 4 core and new only have 2 core. Can someone please explain what the additional 2 cores are used for in the old actuators and how to modify the wiring for the new, and perhaps if...
Completed EICR on flat within block building,
Suppliers set up is as follows
Within switch room
Service head
Meter
Main iso
2 core concentric cable up to flat 10 meters away
Secondary service head TN-CS
Consumers DB
Im not really sure where the suppliers/ consumers wiring starts/ends with...
Hi everyone,
I have a 2 core 10mm2 SWA from a DB to a consumer unit to be joint. I know seems a silly question but how can I joint the steel of the SWA?
Thank you
So I've just bought a plug-in wall-mounted light from Habitat (link at the end) which I intend to remove the cable from and wire into the mains.
Although I will use 3 core cable I was surprised to see that the existing cable used nis 2 core which goes into a plastic socket and the main surround...
Evening All,
I'm changing a CU from rewirable to 6 x RCBO in a Victorian flat. The two lighting circuits are lead sheathed 2 core, they appear physically undamaged though I've yet to test them but is this an automatic EIC fail?
The switches and pendants are all plastic.
Thanks for any pointers,
Pete
Hi Guys, how would you wire three gang two way switch for emergency lights so you have 3 feeds coming to the switch aswell as 3, 3 core and earth going to the light aswell as 3, 3 core and earth being strappers to the others 3 gang two way switch new to electrics so help would be appreciated cheers
Hi there. After a bit of advice please. Only reason I am not getting an electrician in is because my son is struggling with Asperger's at the moment, so just not able to let contractors in as he has meltdowns.
I am in the process of simply replacing an old light from underneath a stairwell. I...
Hello I’m starting off doing jobs for myself and I’ve come across a bathroom with lack of ventilation ...
The fan in place is a 4inch fan tight to the ceiling corner.
It’s fed from the light in two core to a isolation switch and transformer in the kitchen behind the fan.
Currently it’s fed in...
Hi guys and girls,
When calculating current carrying capacity of SWA; if you have 3 core swa but one core is being used as the cpc, is the SWA classed as 2 core?
Many Thanks
Hi, I have wired a 2 core inline lamp switch that has no markings for the terminals but not sure it's correct. There are 2 raised terminals in the centre but each has only one inlet/screw, so I used the terminals at the side but it isn't working. Thanks in advance.
Hello I was wondering if anyone could help me on what is the most appropriate method to test continuity of cpc on a 2 core steel wire armoured cable to a distribution board.
I know this is a ridiculous thread but I cant find out the difference between round and flat 2 core flex! They both have exactly the same spec and I need to know these things!!
I'm using it to extend the circuit for some bell chimes as volt drop is too great for bell wire but..... flat or...
Hi all, so what would be your plan of attack.....
Gone to have a quick look at some remedial/maintenance on a domestic flat within listed building. Mixed occupancy of rented and owned.
Owner not present but another person lets me in. Im told metering equipment and incomer is in basement but...
Went to a flat recently where the cable is run through metal conduit to metal back boxes on a TN-S system. Built in the 60's the flats have aluminium strand cable that is sheathed by a braided woven material (vic cable?) and although old is serviceable. The matal conduit is earthed back to the...
When supplying an item of double insulated equipment, (in this case an extract fan). Is it acceptable to use a two core cable i.e. no cpc?
Or is the earth still required in order to protect the cable run?
I need to install a sub-main supply cable from the house to a shed approx 100M away. The SWA needs to be 25mm csa for volt drop requirements - I intend to install a 100mA RCD and 40A MCB to protect the cable for overload / fault protection using the armouring as a means of earth. Then with the...
Can anybody explain exactly the difference between using 2core/4core to wire a fire alarm system, does the cables always go back to the controller? how is it connected when 4core cable is used?, is some of the cores joined through at the detectors/ call points?
