Hi
This is just a sanity check really. I want to install a 4kW system in a building which has 3-phase supply. Assuming I keep the inverter under 16A are there likely to be any issue with the DNO (Western Power!) over only pumping it all down one of the phases?
Thanks
A 3KW, 3-phase, 230V motor draws approximately 13Amps (if my calculations are correct).............
I imagine this is the rating for each individual phase?
What rating should I give my breaker? (Formula?)
If I take two phases for my control circuit, which formula could I use to fuse my circuit?
Industrial installation (non-domestic). Here's the scenario:
A large (150kW) 3-phase motor circuit where the supply is taken from a starter fitted with 315A BS88 HRC fuses.
From calculation using the cable data, the Zs value exceeds the manufacturers requirement for 5s disconnection time...
I want to try and replace the standard relays on our holding pots that are being kept hot by elements. I want to use thyristors instead, but i'm not sure what the best way would be. I would like to implement zero crossing control. So when 1 is fired in the forward dirction, 2 and 3 should be 1/3...
Couple of weeks ago I signed a lease on an industrial unit (all 25 units in the building are 'wired for 3-phase').
Although the unit had a single phase CU the wiring was there for 3Ph.
Spent the last week installing a 24way DB, sockets, isolators etc. etc. etc., got it all checked and...
Hi! I have recently changed my job and my employer has asked me to survey the existing electrical system. The main incomer is 100A 415V 3-phase and neutral and each phase and neutral is attached to a separate CU. This is how is breaks down:-
L1+N= (100A CU) Handdriers in toilets, lighting...
If you are running a single phase board in a commercial premesis, its the only board in the place, but the incomer is 3-phase with a 3-phase meter but only single phase leaving the meter, would you still double the KA?
I've got a boat, and often connect to shore-power using a 230V IEC blue 16A plug like this:
A lot of places now have IEC sockets that take a 415V 3P+E red plug like this:
Can you get a converter, I'm guessing it would be a transformer?
I have the following:

For phase to phase Meggering of 3-phase Synchonous Generator, we have to open its flexible links (between phases) & its star point. We then connect Megger's positive lead to phase (which we want to Megger) & we short remaining two phases with ground?(& connect megger's negative lead to it) Why...
For Differential protection testing of a three phase Power T/F using secondary injection test set, how do we know the correct value of current to pe applied(value at which relay picks up)? Does OEM provide these values in Instruction manual or Electrical Engineers calculate these values...
Hi guys, I've just been given a date for EDF to come and connect 3-phase supply to my garage at home (I'm starting my own business and unfortunately the control cabinet I'm designing needs 415v 3p, so to hold off renting a unit I thought I'd power-up and test the machine at home).
I've sourced...
Hi all,
Got an interesting generator related issue here………………. I’m currently helping a friend with a 100KVA geni and I’m after some advice. I’m trying to work out what the maximum current draw would be…………..
So if O\P Amps = KVA / (O\P Volt / 1000) = 100/(240/1000) = 416.66 Amps
But as...
