Hello,
I was looking at installing a SPD into an existing split load RCD BG consumer unit. In the instructions for the SPD it states that it may be positioned before or after a RCD but I have always been of the idea that the SPD needs to go before the RCD due to the RCD potentially tripping...

If there isn't a 2-pole isolator there already, I usually get the client to arrange to get one fitted before I do a board change, either through their energy supplier, or (if they also need a PME earth, or their energy supplier is faffing around) through National Grid (formerly WPD).
Every time...
A 13-year-old GFCI kitchen receptacle went bad, so I replaced it with a new one I bought from Lowe's (Eaton model TWRSGF20). After one day, this one failed as well (the red dot is flashing with the yellow dot solid which, according to the manual, means it needs to be replaced). I cannot reset...

Hi,
Have normal fused immersion heater switch.
I would like to add a smart wifi switch to it so when my Solar is producing over 3k spare, going back to the grid (once the battery is charged) it can heat the water instead, save using the gas for the PM heat up. Will use Home Assistant.
I know...
Hi All
I have recently had a new bathroom mirror installed with a built in LED and Demister that is turned on using a motion sensor.
The mirror works perfectly, except when there is a power cut. When the power is restored, the mirror LED automatically turns on, this is not ideal if we are out...
Hi, recently had an EICR test done by 'Landlord Certificates' which failed due to circuite 3 having two radial circuits into a single 32amp MCB, they advised splitting it into two 20amp MCB's and quoted £174 including EICR certificate. The Electrian appears to have simply taken out the 32amp...
Rather weird this one. After 35-40 mins driving the nearside rear indicator stops working. Outside temp or lights on or off or how much usage doesn't seem to make any difference. It still stops working after 35 mins. If I stop for a coffee....it starts to work again. Any ideas?

I’ve just sat my SECTT test and passed, In the pass email it stated that companies in my area would be sent a list of people who passed the test and may be able to contact me directly, I am currently quite unsure if I will be offered an apprenticeship from any the companies I have been in...

Hello everyone!
I am curious to know if we need a new Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) after installing an electric vehicle charger at our property. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with this? Any advice would be appreciated. The most recent EICR was only issued in...
The G4 110V 3W dimmable bulbs I purchased work with a dimmer. I can brighten them and dim them, but when I turn the dimmer off, the LED bulbs remain on (the same level as the lowest brightness). I am using a Lutron Maestro LED+ Dimmer. This style dimmer has tiny lights built into the switch so...
I know that after the Henley Block which houses the Service Mains fuse, the Voltage is 230v
If we was to remove the fuse and Measure the incoming Live wire, would the Voltage still be 230v?

Our old Friedland chime all too often now emits a only faint "ding"- because the person at the door (usually a delivery driver) just "dabs" at the button.
It works from three buttons:-
Outside of porch; inner front door (the outer front door when the house was built); back door.
The...
I commissioned an EICR to be done on a property that is in Wales as this is now a requirement in order to let on any new tenancies after 1st December 2022 (Renting Homes Act 2016). I was at the property whilst the EICR was being done and was told that it would fail on a hairline fracture on a...

Hello wise electricians of the world! I am in the UK. Recently we had a water leak which caused some damage in our home, we are currently trying to dry everything out. The water certainly affected at least some electrical circuits (e.g. water was coming through kitchen ceiling spot lights.)
