Hi guys. Hope everyone is keeping well in this strange time. Completed my am2 on Wednesday and waiting to get my results. Firstly my assessor said I was competent and his words were ‘I’d let you wire my house’ which filled me with confidence. Then when I asked for any more feedback he said I...
I have my AM2 booked soon and had a few questions
What multifunction tester is provided or does it vary between am2 centres?
I am doing preparation course online so i am just wondering if the installation is going to be the same layout or similar

Hi guys just a question about am2. When setting the dol overload relay does it have to be as close as possible or do
I have to add a percentage on top. So for example the kw rating of the motor is 0.55kw
so ive worked it out like this ... 550 divided by 693 which gives me 0.79 and on my dol i...
Hi I have my fault finding resit in a couple of weeks.

asking advice:
I had the AM2 assessment today and there’s a couple of things I wanted to check with someone that may have done this recently.
the lighting circuit clearly states in the wiring diagram in the NET book to use 6424/3y for all cable runs including from dB to first 2way switch and...
Hello everyone,
I have my AM2 fault finding resit on Friday and just wondering if anyone has any top tips as I don’t get to do any fault finding at work?
In the AM2 you get 7 faults which can be on these circuits:
1 usually on a data circuit
2 on earth bonding to extraneous parts water pipe and...

The final registration for the City & Guilds NVQ 2356-99 (Mature Candidate Assessment) will be on 31/12/2020. This means that we cannot enrol anyone on the NVQ 2356-99 after 31/12/2020. Anyone enrolling on the City & Guilds NVQ 2356-99 before 31/12/2020 will have three years to complete the NVQ...
I was talking to an apprentice yesterday who was moaning about the length of wait to do his AM2. There is a new centre in Maidstone South that has plenty of availability and does the AM2revision day.
How would I pinpoint a fault on a ring circuit with very little resistances, and without any visual clues, only by measuring.
Say I have a break in neutral between db and first socket. How would I go about fault finding it?
1. I will use low resistance ohmmeter.
2. I will find that rn is not a...
How come the sequence of tests in guidance note 3 is that the Zs test comes before the PFC test?
Isn't it normal to do PFC test before the Zs test? Because then you can do your PFC test, put the board cover on and energize the board without coming back to do the PFC test.
Hi, could anyone tell me how to prove in a book that the highest x5 of an RCD test is sufficient please? It’s a question on my am2 testing. Thanks
I’m also struggling on how to check that my measure PFC at DB will trip the breakers in time. This question was a tick box on the exam so if anyone...

I've just come across a post saying that the new AM2E will be starting from October.
Apparently there's already an AM2S as well the normal AM2.
Does anyone know what is different between the 3 assessments?
Surely it should just be the same practical assessment for all electricians looking to...
Hello
1. When taking R1+R2 readings on the AM2 composite installation are we expected to take the reading at the supply side of the FCU (S-plan & CO detector circuits) or at the farthest point of the circuit? I know with EICRs we only test to the FCU.
2. With the fault finding they list 4 fault...
