Hi all i am in the process of doing a pir on a residential home and they have some 3phase sockets wired in 4 core sy flex using the cpc as the neutral and the sy flex " armour" as the cpc. Obviously im going to fail the circuits for using the cpc as the Neutral but just wondering about the...
Have been working in a small packaging company today along with another local spark, installing a couple of single phase distribution circuits. 99.99% of my work is domestic, so was really along with him to help and learn a bit more at the same time.
The questions I have is why do some guys...
As title says really?
Heard people say use in some form of piping to make life easier in future should you need to replace/pull in new cable
Others say bury direct?

I am wiring an outbuilding, to be used as an office at the moment. I am nearly at the stage of running the supply out to it from the main house.
The main house has a TT supply. Would the correct way to do it be to use a 63a 100ma time delayed rcd to protect the swa supply, and 30ma protection...
Hi guys,
Had a situation the other day where the armour sheath on sub mains was carrying a voltage of about 55V.The sheath was not being used as an earth and was only there to give protection to the cable. Can anyone tell me why this occured?

When running a new feed in armour, that will also require a bonding conductor over the same run, is there a problem with buying armour with an extra core and using one of those? I only ask as I've only ever seen a separate green and yellow zip tied to the side of the armour, if you're using 2...
Hi All,
First thread in ages.
Recently went to a a pub to carry out some origin tests before they begin a total refurb.
It used to be a 3-PH supply / metering but they are only using 1-PH (red) with single PH metering.
I opened the service head to discover a core cable swa cable...
Was talking to someone today about a radial from the CU to a single garden IP rated socket. TN-S supply.
I was thinking that I would run 3-core SWA from the garden socket into an indoor adaptable box and from there in T+E back to the CU. The SWA runs underground across a lawn.
In the...
Hi guys,
Am i right in saying that normaly the bonding cable from the bango should be the same c.s.a. as the conductors ? . This is on a 25mm s.w.a. sub- main fron one house to another , main house is three phase, holiday cottage is 15 meters away, all p.m.e.
Hi all
Can anyone tell me if there is a table in o.s.g or brb for the c.s.a of the armour on swa cables, ? could the cpc and armourd sheath both be used as an over all capacity for earthing if connected together at earthing terminal via a banjo
cheers
morning and happy new year
i've just carried a pir and there are 6x 24way dbs all supplied by its own 25mm 2 core swa cable
probably around 25/30 years old.
i was looking for the calc to see if the armour was sufficient as the main earthing conductor.
all Ze readings at the boards and Zs...
Right.
I have added a couple of garden lights onto a radial circuit that is in a garden for a pond etc. However as always the contractor supplies the cable. New board in house, the cable to the pond 2.5mm 3 core swa...up to 17th etc... but i have only been given 2 core swa 1.5mm.
So I am...
Does anybody know what table in the regs gives the size of armouring in mm when using the SWA as a CPC ? so i can write this in the circuit details on the installation cert.
