On my landing are three connected lights. They have 230v LED bulbs. There are three switches - one obviously an intermediate switch. In one of the four 'off' arrangements of the switches, the LEDs glow faintly. Does anyone have a theory on where this current might be leaking to? Thanks.
Hi Forum,
I have been reading up but cant get / find a definitive answer on this.
firstly - I understand the purpose of a fuse is to to protect a circuit (shorting fires etc..) this is all good
what I am having trouble finding/ grasping is the concept around fuses and power distribution.

I am renovating my own house at the moment and want to bounce an idea off of you all
I need to wire a socket high level on the wall at the bottom of the bed for a tv on the wall. I want to be able to switch this off as the tv has an anoying led that lights up the room. Im going to install a...
So basically what I have is a combi boiler supplying heating for two properties and splitting the heating for the two properties using a 3 port valve, I’m using two single channel programmers to control a room stat for each house but am having trouble working it out in my head. is it possible to...
Hello all.
Had a job today putting in a new kitchen circuit. Plan was to put in a new CU just for the kitchen sockets and lights. When I looked at the cut out, found a Seeboard PME label and the neutral came out of the cut-out into a Henley block then onwards to the meter. So far so good but...
Evening All
I did an install Saturday Night in a warehouse, as per quote by the office. The circuit i connected up was a panel heater cct in the conference room. The dis-board was fed from a MEM Panel Board and all test results satisfactory. I went to find the panel board in the warehouse to...

Im currently doing some garden lighting at my parents place and need some help on the switching arrangement. I ran all armoured's(9) back to the garage and connected them to a din rail enclosure, from this enclosure i ran a 12core armoured to the house via adaptable box. The...
Testing a 50+ year old installation I found a Ze of 0.56 ohms. What I the main earth wire (which is a 6mm^2 wire but hey it's 50 years old, and it's using the earth bar in the fuse box as the MET just fyi) disappears into the wall cavity behind the fuse box and my original suspicion was that it...
A thing that has made me doubt what ive always done. When testing various domestic premises I have been doing a PEFC test and a PSCC test to determine if the installation is TN-S OR TN-C-S.
I was always told this is fine as the ka value will be the exact same on a TN-C-S. However today I got a...
Does anyone have any suggetsions on which gear would be best for this arrangement. Need to use a solar switch to feed an immersion heater and 3 zones of UFH. Outline attached. Feed from the solar switch needs to be routed to the UFH zones or the immersion heater - controlled from a room...
Hi everyone. We are doing an off-grid system for a small log cabin. It consists of a 6kVA SDMO generator as back up to a small battery set and 4.5 kWp solar PV array with a 3.0/4.4 kW Sunny Island. The problem I have is the generator has a floating earth. After some research I was going...

A big Hi to all on here, please be gentle with me it my fist time !!
It's only a quick one but do the DNO have a legal requirement to supply suitable earthing at the point of origin of metered supply.
many thanks advance
I've been doing a lot of research, and am hearing a lot of conflicting information on this subject. Currently working on an important job and want to get this perfect, and the time is coming soon to connect the new consumer unit up to the supply, so would be interested to get some more feedback...
Went to do some pre-work inspecting and testing for a small job on a lighting circuit I am undertaking next week. Relatively new dual split load consumer unit, 1 lighting circuit for upstairs and downstairs, 1 line wire, and seemingly 2 neutrals (one of which is a single). I initially thought...
I am having to run a large SWA feed cable to a fixed load (45Kw TP). The cable will be run externally but above ground on cable tray.
Do I need to provide RCD protection for the SWA cable at the distribution board end??
I would value peoples opinions the earthing arrangement I cam across yesterday. Water and Gas main protective bonding conductors were not installed at the consumer unit, but were coned to the main earthing terminal. The MET was connected to the distributors earth and one conductor ran from the...
hi folks can you please help with identifying these earthing arrangements?

Just after a little guidance on a sub main install as ive never installed one.
my only "issue"' is how to install the earthing as in good wroking practice. rough plan being meter tails->sub main->3core swa->consumer unit.
I plan to use the 3rd core as my earth (armour will be earthed too but im...
