Armour not CPC.
By the letter of the regs 2.5mm is acceptable as the DB offers both mehanical and corrosion protection.
Just seems a bit puny on a 10mm SWA, what about a much larger cable?
Can some of the boffins explain why 2.5mm is deemed acceptable.
Cheers
Hi guys bit of advice needed to save me some time and money. Earthing and bonding required in new build property. 10mm earth to be ran to gas meter to clip to gas pipe that will enter property. This gas pipe then goes to a combi boiler where I will bond all pipes at combi to the gas pipe (gas...
Something about the way this box is bonded feels wrong. I prefer the box to remain bonded even with the accessory removed. Is this method compliant? What do others think? (Ignore missing grommet)
(Taylor Wimpey new build)
The scenario,
Property has no bonding to gas meter. There is a 4mm T+E radial from the DB to an outside socket which is located 300mm from the gas meter (external meter). The 4mm T+E is housed in 20mm plastic conduit running along the external wall.
To prevent things looking a complete mess...
Ok new house. New install cert issued. However, no supplementary bonding that I can see and accessible .
There is a 10mm earth wire connected above the water stop cock point of entry under the kitchen sink.
However, no cross bonding to the hot pipe.
According to install cert the cross bonding...
Hello.
The toilet is connected into a cast iron waste/soil pipe O.D. 150mm.
Apparently, this is an extraneous conductive part and is thus supposed to have a main protective bonding conductor connected back to the MET.
There is a bonding clamp for 150mm O.D. pipes available.
However, the pipe...
Hi, I am just after some advice. I am having new meters fitted and been told they need to be earth bonded? I've attached a photo as my friend thinks this has been done but I need to know before I book an electrician, so any help is appreciated, thank you
we are allowed to omit supplementary bonding on the 3 conditions (rcd, disconnection times and main bonding adequate )
if we have a plastic insert we may omit main bonding on water for example.
would supplementary bonding have to be added as it no longer has main bonding ?
Carried out a couple of EICRs on BISF prefabs and on both there is no main bonding to the steel frame of the building.
My scheme technical helpline advised that main bonding was not required. Just wondered what people's thoughts are here?
These are NOT pictures of the actual lofts (the roof...
I've got to earth a new 50mm steel gas pipe.
The pipe fitter didn't fit an earth stud to it and now he's gone.
Am I just looking at a large earth strap or something else?
Any ideas are welcome?
Hello, can anyone advise on bonding of extraneous conductive parts when supply is from a generator run parallel with distribution network?
There'll b a 200kva generator supplying spray booths that have a gas supply to them.
The metal pipes aren't underground but connect to tanks outside sitting...
sorry if this has been covered but I cannot find answers -
1st floor flat TNS supply from basement - the water is bonded at the stop cock within the flat to the consumer unit .
The Gas enters in 2 places for cooker and boiler . Some "brightspark" has earthed this via a rod at the meter - does...
When running the 10mm Main Protective bonding to the Gas in a semi recessed gas meter box, how do you enter the box with the cable?
The reason I am asking is:
1) The pipe sleeve for the gas pipe can not contain the earth as it is not 25mm separation. (yes I know it will attach to the pipe...
Hi all,
Just been to look at a job for a consumer unit changeout, checked the supply and,
Not sure you can see it too well but TNS system with older earthing conductor in green kind of sweated onto intake (connection does not feel too good), but disconnected at the other end (goes into that...
Hi there,
We will need to earth a Faraday cage room in an experimental work, do we need to certify the job?
Can it be only earthed into the plumbing pipes if available (Bonding?)?
If there are no pipes around should we earth it into a mains circuit using a junction box or surface box for...
Currently building a system for a PITA customer
Did stage 1 last year
( I only did onsite install)
They snagged and changed totally nonsensical things at a whim and my company let them
Resulted in job being completed 4 mths late
This year stage 2 only had 4 electrical snags versus 176 last...
Regulation 411.3.1.2 states ....
Main bonding conductors shall connect to the main earthing terminal extraneous conductive parts.
It then goes on to say...
'Metallic pipes entering the building having an insulating section at their point of entry need not be connected to the protective...
Having to re cable the lighting in a metal portacabin, the cabin is placed in a workshop, would you main bond it,doubts due to new 18 th edition,on the requirements of main bonding.
The cabin is not an extraneous conductive part,& will be earthed fortuitously by the lighting equipment.
I’ve been asked to add a couple of extra points to the single ring main in a flat. Building fabric is concrete, all of the electrical installation is steel conduit buried in the concrete.
I opened the consumer unit and could only see one CPC for a radial socket, as well as the main Earth. No...
