My Job Is to fix broken sockets, Pendants, change consumer Units, Add lighting crcuits to RCBOs etc etc I then follow this up with a minor works cert.

Hi,
today at I put 4 down lights in a bathroom, the house had been rewires 4 years ago apparently.
lights etc were on non rcd side of board, total mess, no labels, no circuit identification.
anyway, move the upstairs lights to rcd side, go up and check bedrooms, yep work fine, landing light...
Hi Guys
Semi detached with 16th Ed box. Upstairs and downstairs lights on seperate ccts and mcbs
Just extended the downstairs lighting cct into a conservatory and fitted an RCBO after checking (not very well, it seems) whether the landing light was on a borrowed neutral. All tested Ok. All...
Did a board change today and put in rcbos for mcbs in common areas of a block of flats. Meggered out ok before i started by the way!!
Rcbo for outside lights didnt hold. Mcb was fine before. All others held fine. So neutral to earth fault right? Also disconnected neutral from rcbo no problems...
Ive installed an additional RCD onto an existing Wylex board that already had one RCD, however a breaker on the old RCD circuit is tripping the new RCD and for the life of me I cant figure out why. Anybody have any ideas?
So my first solo job after my assessment turned out to be fun. The customer's plasterer had removed light fittings and switches a pretty much everything had come loose, after much head scratching I realised that the live from the downstairs had been borrowed in the hall switch (I'm assuming...
The RCD trips when either the down or up switch for the stairs lighting is pressed.
. I think the circuit is wired from the bottom switch to the top switch, then to the up stairs light....no neutrals in sight, so i suspect the neutral is from the up light circuit. but the live an earth is from...
Have had one of them days. I had a board change to do and a few other bits and bobs so everything was going great until I tried to put power back on.
Basically I have replaced a 3036 board with a split load Wylex board. One half of the board is working fine but the other half's RCD is tripping...
I have put a new consumer in there is x2 lighting circuits up and down I have to put the circuits on separate mcb's but up stairs 2way has pinched a feed from the downstairs circuit, what can I do? Is it ok to put a sticker on the board to inform people?
I'm trying to install a spur off an existing lighting circuit.
I thought I would be able to replace a single switch with a double and use the new switch for the spur.
However the builder hasn't brought the Neutral down to the switch, it's up in the ceiling and I can't access it, the floor...
How would i test for borrowed neutrals?
Would it be a case of disconnecting all circuits neutrals at the DB and doing a continuity test between each neutral and seeing if any two circuits bell out?
hope it makes sense and i appreciate any feedback
cheers

Hi All
New to this forum.
Im currently doing a Electrical condition report on a domestic house that I have just fitted a dual RCD board and Equipotential bonding in
The Neutral on the landing light is taken from the downstairs circuit so is a C2 on the report
Its not practical to rewire this...
Hello everyone
Could someone explain why the following happens with a borrowed neutral?
Did a cu change today and installed a dual rcd board, Previously the up and downstairs lights were on the same mcb. I was half expecting the rcd/s to trip when I separated them, which they did. I dont need...
Hi Lads, how are you all? Was just wondering if any you have come across "the hidden killer" (borrowed neutrals)? Thought it would be a good idea just to raise awareness. Thanx.
Hi all, my name's Muzza. (Newbie) Thought i'd raise the subject of "the hidden killer" I'm sure some of you older sparks have came across a few in your time. I think we should raise this point just to make people aware of what's lurking out there. Does this sound a bit like an old Hitchcock...
For the purposes of emergency lighting can anyone define borrowed lighting for me.
I have seen a number of different Fire Authorities guides and recommendations and these are some of the definitions of Borrowed Lighting I have found:
light obtained from another nearby source of emergency...
Hi All
I have been warned about borrowed neutral:
please could anyone tell me where i can find a wiring diagram that details a lighting circuit with a borrowed neutral as i wish to gain a comprehensive understanding to how this would be actually wired & the relationship it would have in...
Hey folks, quick question for you all, when changing the consumer unit do youHAVE to split the upstairs and downstairs lighting circuits over two rcd's?
In the situation of the classic borrowed neutral on the landing light i usually re-feed it for a small charge. I would always look to do this...
New dual RCD CU fitted today. IR tests ok for circuits up and down albeit UP has only L/N into CU. Put on separate RCD's, down ok but up trips both RCD,s. Tried both in one MCB: Down ok till turning on any up light then RCD trip
Any help really appreciated as brain frazzled
