Has anyone had problems with this switch fuse??? I went to one last year which was warm to the touch, so I changed it for an Amd3 metal one. I found this one today burnt out, close call. The screw terminals were tight - the source of the heat looks to be the contact inside the switch. This one...
Friend says to me, "can you have a look at my shower. It smelt of burning, I turned it off and took the cover off. This is what's happened"
Oh ffs......
Morning.
The LED light above my bath doesn't work. I yanked all the stuff out the ceiling and found this.
So far, so good. But hark!
I have come to the conclusion that something is wrong with the transformer. Worst case: it may never transform again.
If I just buy another one with the...
Scenario: Visibly burnt out, entirely blackened, ballast in a fluorescent fitting. Would this be noteworthy during an EICR and if so, how would it be coded? My thinking is that its an obvious fire risk.
Still an apprentice with millions to learn, any input would be appreciated.
Had a callout for a landlord as the bathroom fan stopped working.
Didnt take too long to work out why...
Never seen a fan quite as bad as this before!!
Wonder what caused this, possibly got jammed and overheated?
Have a fault where the ecomony 7 (or whatever it's called) overnight water heater element keeps causing heat damage to the fuse in the local fused switch.
The element seems to be 15A rated so the first time I was called out I told the landlord it was too high for the 13A fused switch and needed...
Just arrived at a job, 45amp shower isolator completely burnt out.
Checked cable and it's 4mm tne in trunking to 8.5kw triton riba shower on a 32amp mcb. Cable run is 5meters.
This was a new circuit installed only a few months ago. I expect loose connection on isolator causing burnt...
Did an EICR opened the CU and found this burnt charred Neutral running downstream of the (main switch). What should I be looking for (other than a replacement tail)?
There were two or three C2 observations that may well have caused an overload - eg 5kW of water immersion wired into the ring...
Hi,
i recent bought a 2 poster screw type car ramp. Changed the motor for a 2.2kw motor. Wired it up and tested it with nothing on it and it went up and down no bother.
Put my 1 tonne Clio on it and it lifted about 1ft off the ground and then ground to a hault. It went back down no bother...
Morning all,
been asked to to look at an old fusebox (Wylex) where the main switch has been burnt away due to a loose incoming live tail connection.
obviously no spares are available, so it's deffo gonna be a new unit. Ordinarily I know this would mean a full eicr before changing the unit, but...
A plumber has installed a 8.3kw heating boiler pulling 35a which is being fed from a 6mm . it has burnt two 45a cooker switches already. Why. Rewiring to 10mm will be hard as tenants just moved in. Owner going mad ! Cable is running above ceiling near downlighters and poss insulation. Also...
It's a TT so I reckon I'll sleep better at night knowing that if there was a fault to earth upstream of the RCDs the customer wouldn't get a brutal/possibly fatal belt. Just going to put it in the departures section of cert and discuss it at my annual inspection with my assessor.
I know I have...
Evening all, been called out to a campsite to a hook up that looks like a dalek. This hook up is supplied by 32a on 6mm 3 core swa and supply's a 40amp rcd and 2 c6 mcbs. The mcbs then feed 2 of the blue industrial 3 pin outlets. The rcd was burnt out through the side and knackered. I am going...

Is there any guidance / reg regarding how far insulation should be stripped back once it has been overheated due to an accessory / termination issue? Example, shower / cooker switch faulty (so heat source local therefore whole length does not need replacing) 1" burnt then further 2"...
Just noticed a fault with my cooker as in the cooker will not switch off from the mains switch on the wall. Isolated the cooker at the CU and took the switch off the wall and investigated what was going on.
When opened I noticed that there was a live wire sitting loose in the socket and it has...
So was visiting a friend and they happened to have a problem with their cooker....it stopped working mid cooking a dinner!
