hi everyone, an aquaintence with very little money has bought a 9.8 kw shower to replace his failed unit and asked me to fit it. house has a 6mm t/e shower cable. normally i would insist on 10mm cable, however, 9.8 kw at 230 volts works out at 42 amps. actual voltage measures at 245 which means...
Quick one are boss in his wisdom orders 4core 6mm swa to supply an out door air con unit via an isolator why I don't no trying to terminate in to a 32a isolator was extremely tight my question is are you allowed to down size the cable from the isolator or would ou have to still youse the same...

Can anybody clarify this for me I have perchest a book for solar electricity called the solar electricity handbook as i am going on a PV course in April and it has a calc in it for determining cable size (L x I x0.04) – (V – 20) = Cable csa it seems...
I am in the process of doing a bit of renovation and i need to run a cable from the meter to the distribution board, the distance is 45m. 25 of them are under ground and then it goes up through the cavity and into the attic and over to the board. Will 16mmsq swa be to small or will i have to go...
going to feed an isolator that will feed via metres, 1 x 125A 3phase board and 2 x 100A single phase boards. Not sure whether to use 100 or 125A fuses in isolator. Have predicted the cable to be 4core 25mm swa. Is this correct. As there is no load given should I discriminate to 80% of the...
Hi,
Main supply cable entering my house is swa and measures 13.75mm outside diameter, don't know how many cores. I have electric wet central heating with a 9kw boiler plus immersion heaters, dishwasher, washing maching etc. all the normal stuff. House is all electric, no gas supply available...
I need a cable for 10kW/44Amps Shower. 10M run
TLC Catalogue for T&E 6242Y recommends 10mm upto 53 Amps. Doncaster Cables online calc reckons 4mm.
Draka online calc agrees with TLC. Common sense also says 10mm.
What have I got wrong for Doncaster to suggest 4mm?
Thanks
Michael
Hello,
I have been asked to install some outside lights to a photocell and I was planning to take the power from a Par38 twin flood spotlight that is currently installed. After I take the spur I was then going to run into the photocell, then from the photocell to the first light and from the...
Rangemaster oven 15/16kw with 7 to 10m run of cable, specifies to use a 45A rated cooker circuit breaker - we would use one with a socket.
Can be 6mm or 10mm cable, depending on which cooker connections one uses.
Would it be better to use the 10mm cable, and would the MCB be 45A rated, or...

Hi all,
I need a hand with getting the correct size of cable. I have a 300m run, with a 50kv load. It will be buried direct in the ground.
I have calculated it at 70mm 4core SWA with a 50mm separate earth (belts and braces), is this right?
Also, what would I have to back this up with, 60947-2...

I am looking at putting in a new dual fuel cooker, what I need to know is what size cable is needed for a radial circuit. The appliance has a rating of 5.7kw and the length of cable would be approx 11m. Also what size circuit breaker? I know the appliance draws around 25A.
Hello,
I just bought a LED security light drawing 3.6W and used a 0.75mm cable to run in inside then into a fused switch spur, and a cable from a 1G plug socket next to it to create a spur, will the 0.75mm cable be OK to carry the current? And what fuse will be safe for the fused switch spur...
Here's the situation. For whatever reason this domestic installation has ended up with a washing machine hard wire to a fused, switched (with neon) switch (that was obviously once a cooker switch) supplied by a 10mm T&E on a 16A MCB. A 13A fuse is installed in the switch. The cooker (which...

i am struggling to work out the cable size required for the following air con unit. the run of the 4 core swa cable will be about 90 metres, where 85% of it will be underground.
I have to put in a 20A supply for a cabinet in a Spar shop.
I have used the voltage drop calculator and it has come out at 2.5mm t & e. It's only a 18m run ................ Some people use 4mm t & e out of habit for such an installation. Why? The old belt and braces routine!
Anyone got any...
