hello
when adding a new circuit (via spare way) to a existing CU with a 30ma rcd main switch (we cant change the board all the time or fit rcbo), do you note as a deviation on cert re (regulation 314) or not write anything ?

Hi,
We had PAT testing carried out the other day and since the engineer left... one of the laser printers in the office has packed up. It powers up ok, and the green LED indicating its ready to print is lit... but it hasn't printed a page since the guy tested it, and it won't print a test page...
Hi all, I am currently undertaking research into electrical cause of fire including distribution systems and appliances. If anybody is willing to share experiences, knowledge and or images showing fire cause, particularly in the early stages of the fault condition I would be most appreciative...
Hi Can anyone tell me whether a normal rail mounted lighting contactor can cause voltage spikes? We have replaced 4 emergency gear trays on a site in the last week, 2 of them have only lasted 24hrs!!!The new fittings have electronic ballasts.....just trying to find out what's going on!!!!!Have...
Had a look at a fault for a mate, cooker kept taking out main 30mA rcd when switched on at cooker switch (no load, just turning on at wall)
Disconnected cooker, turned on all ok. Cooker faulty? Had it tested and it was fine.
Tested circuit, megger, r1+r2, all perfect. Went to do zs and...
Fellas
Scenario - 1 main three phase board feeding 3 further three phase boards with each of those feeding 15 single phase boards containing only two final circuits each.
The fault is on the final circuits, ive tested the final circuits and all clear, can a fault on the distribution circuits...
Don't know if anyone can give some insight on this: UPS and a three way bypass switch:<br>Position 1 - Normal (UPS Power)<br>Position 2 - Bypass & UPS (Mains Power / UPS On)<br>Position 3 - Bypass (Mains Power / UPS Off)<br><br>What could overload the UPS and cause it to...
Does anybody know if during a fire the highest risk factor that would cause emergency lights to be operated would be
a) an open circuit (before the lights) eg ceiling collapse, melted coper conductors, etc or
b) a closed circuit causing the mcb to trip eg melted insulation leading to short...
Something I haven't come across before and now its bugging me. Here is the situation.
3 phase type C mcb protecting an air con unit. The area gets a blackout for 30 mins or so, when the DNO restore power the mcb didn't trip but when tested no current was going through any of the phases on...
I've had a couple of these jobs now, found a garden shed wired into a ring with appliance flex on one of them - nice job
But the one today is a bit bigger a commercial yard - if it's raining the RCD starts tripping at about 5pm.
So I know I'm looking for and from what he's told me I've got a...
Hi Guys
I have a question regarding volt drop.
Some time ago a company I worked for installed wall mounted aircon units around their workshop. They wired them into an existing 2.5mm ring main circuit which was in singles in a truncking. During operation some of the units would cause the...
Had a customer mention to me the following issue he has.
They have no mains water, so have a pump that keeps 2 supply tanks filled. He tells me that every now and again the pump stops working and he has to reset it. According to him its caused by the power going of because the clock on the...
Hi guys, I am interested in installing a grid tied PV system. The property is rural and there are occasional power cuts for which a back-up generator is installed that powers up on a cut.
Anybody had any experience of this and will it affect the inverter? Or can the system be installed...
An electric shock due to inadequate fault protection can only be caused by?
a. accidental touching of a phase conductor
b. class 2 equipment
c. touching conduit under fault conditions
d. SELV terminals
I know the answer just wondering your thoughts on the question.
Hi,
First post so go easy :/
I've done a fair amount of electrical DIY, confined mainly to changing light fittings, adding a ring main spur in at the most, so fairly simple stuff - nothing that changes circuits on the whole.
But yesterday I added some spot lights into a WC room and now...
Hi Guys, I'm after some advice please!
My friend got back from holiday yesterday and when he switched his hot water/heating on (honeywell-slide controls - off, cont, once, twice) the whole house tripped (all protected by RCCB as main switch).
I found the terminal strip where the thermostat, pump...
