what is the history of this? all i can find on the internet is (i suspect) a load of rubbish from the companies that install it that are just trying to get you to buy it. on one forum i saw 2 posts from different users with 1 post that had the exact same text which started "Having been a cavity...
Hi,
Bare with me on this what feels like a very stupid question but I'm just getting to the end of my apprenticeship and I'm going to be looking at trying to do some private work soon as times are hard and I've had to go self employed as an improver to complete my apprenticeship.
Up to now...

Hi all
Are you still allowed to run cables in a cavity wall to wire a conservetry to conform to 17th edition amedndmant 1
many thanks for your help,if you could direct me to the relevent page in the wiring guides would be even better.
I've just been to a survey on a rural bungalow. The owners have only been there for a month so it has an EPC at level D. Happy days :)
What puzzles me is how the devil it got it.
60's built with cavity insulation (50mm?)
Roof space has 100mm for the most part.
Oil fired Camray combi boiler...
Hi everyone. Just started a job changing some lights over and behind 1 of the fittings, which is on an external wall with a cavit, they have placed a choc box with all connections in it, in the cavity. Was just wondering if this is ok to do and if it is acceptable in the regs as they may ant the...
I need to extend a cable that runs inside the cavity wall of my house, am I legally able to do this? And if so what connection type would you use? The ideal solution would be to replace the cable however, this is not possible due to the location. The cable is for an external security light...
Just seen someone mention on another thread that running cables in a cavity is bad practice.
Can anyone elaborate for me, I was under the impression that this was ok but not ideal in a new build etc.
How should it be done these days? I'm in a 1990s flat and just wondering how a rewire will be...
What's the cencus on this, to get cables to another floor. Cables obviously need to be fixed, I'm cant see how they could be running through the cavity unless I'm missing something?
Also there is the problem of cables being de-rated if cavity insulation is added.
Had a good one today. Went to fix a fan in a bath room and on removing it from the wall discovered it wasn't cored all the way thru and was venting in to the cavity.
My mate has just rang (honest Guv) says a building inspector has pulled him on the fact that he's run a conservatory ring main inside the cavity of the dwarf wall, which apparently will not be insulated.
Now I know cables in cavities which are insulated are a no-no, what are your views on this...
Bonjour
Can anyone tell me if it is acceptable to place a consumer unit inside the cavity of a dot and dab plasterboard wall or does it have to be surface mounted?
Cheers
Hi I'm new to the forum so I hope I have got this in the right section of the forum.
I'm installing a new shower in to the house, and on chasing the old wiring I have found that it is running down the cavity wall between my house and my neighbours. Is this illegal or is it ok to route wires...
Hi,
This is my first post on the forum so, hello to you all!
I've recently finished my training and am now doing some jobs in the 'real world' finally. However as I'm sure you'll all agree, it's one thing learning in college and another putting it into practice. As such, I've come across...
Hi all,
Am new to the forum so hope I've posted correctly.

Am about to move cu to new location, concrete cavity wall with meter box on outside.
Intend to route 25mm tails + 16mm Main bonds through wall via 50mm steel trunking to cu and main earth to met (in...
I have a single story building and need to run a cable for outside lighting on a patio from a feed in the roof/fascia area.
The most direct route would be down via the external cavity wall (2.5M run length in the cavity) which has full fill rockwall insulation (100mm thick). I am intending to...
Did a 1st fix to a rather large new build a couple of weeks back. It was a brick and block house which was going to be dotted and dabbed (If you know what I mean) on all of the external and downstairs walls. All good!!! So I decieded to run the tails (25mm) and main earth (16mm) on the block...
