Hi all, quick question, if I fit a new small consumer unit for a shower do I just test this board or do I need to test the existing house consumer unit as well ? Thanks Ian
Hi All
So I am going to be looking at upgrading to a new a consumer unit in the next few months and I would like to know whether there is such a thing as premium units and budget units because the prices I've looked certainly indicate this to be the case. If so are there actually any...
About to replace my consumer unit. Current one is screwed directly to plastered wall. The replacement unit is in roughly the same location but I need to move it away from the wall slightly so the top clears an exposed wooden joist. I’m looking to fix it to one inch thick section of MDF fixed to...
Called by a customer yesterday as the cover on the consumer unit has come off and they were panicking. Agreed to call in this morning.
Its a new build house, the consumer unit is located immediately adjacent to the side door. When it opens the door handle/ lock bangs into the cover.
Over time...
hi guys, Is it still ok to add a new circuit to an all insulated consumer unit in a domestic dwelling. I only ask as my previous employer always changed consumer units for metal when adding a circuit. I know this is probably a stupid question.
Thanks for replies
Hi!
First off I'd like to make clear that this installation is in Spain so UK regs don't necessarily apply but I'm just looking for some feedback and peace of mind that what I want to do isn't too stupid! (p.s. no ring main, all radial circuits and yes, we are earthed!)
I've lived in a ground...
I have just been asked to do an EICR on a fairly large commercial building, up until now my experience of EICR's has been on domestic buildings so need a bit of advice on how to do the certificate please!!
The main distribution board is a 3 phase board which then feeds 8 consumer units...
I'm wondering if any of you guys have installed any of the Chint range of consumer units that Screwfix have recently began selling. If so, how was your experience? Any good, or best avoided?
I have been told that in order to issue a Boletin the Consumer Unit and the Meeter cupboard both need to meet certain requirements. Can anybody say what these are please.
Does anyone have any experience with these ? Have been offered some at a great price but I have no experience of the brand whatsoever. I will probably try one or two out but just wondered if anyone could offer direct experience of these ?
Hi Everyone
I am aware that we now have to install metal consumer units in domestic premises now but at what point should we swap a plastic board over to a metal one?
The reason I ask is I've been to plenty of jobs where there is a plastic CU with no RCD protection. Ideally I would swap the...

I know this has been done to death but I had my annual assessment with Elecsa a little while ago and the assessor told me that Elecsa would find it acceptable to fit an S type RCD in a plastic enclosure before entering the consumer unit.
I double checked this with him to confirm and he said...
I started an installation in a new extension that received planning permission 5 years ago and have been using stock that was purchased before that time. The consumer unit has a plastic case and I am still running cable from and to it. Should I continue using this unit or change it for a metal...
I have just come across a domestic installation that has two consumer units I was asked to wire extra sockets and do a board change as well. I found that the sockets of one board circuit are interconnected to a circuit from the other board, thus back feeding each other. This means that unless...
Hi,
I do a lot of work on domestic TT systems. Now that AMD 3 is in force, what are you guys using RCBO's or a 100ma S type main switch for TT earthing systems.
Cheers
