    TP & N Continuity & Polarity

Just practicing for my AM2. When testing a 3P and N socket, as I understand, R1 to R2 is CPC to any live (L1, L2, L3) to prove continuity, but how do you prove polarity?

    Cheap Continuity tester?

What values of resister and led would work in series with a cheap tone generator, and a 9V? Only needed to check unpowered wiring circuits for shorts.

Best way to check continuity of cpc for lighting

20 y old lighting circuit with cpc at the board but terminating into class 2 recessed down light fittings. Looks like there is a junction box in the ceiling void feeding the light with L&N but I can't access the junction box so not sure how can prove continuity of the circuit?

    Coincidence? Continuity?

Hello, Back in November I had a dedicated circuit installed for a garage door opener. Over the next few days and ever since I noticed my dryer would sometimes be blinking "PF" (power fail). The breaker was never tripped and by the time I'd notice the error code on the dryer, everything would be...

    Continuity test doubt

Hi everyone. I have a doubt. If I have to test a ground pin of a 5V connector (suspect bad ground), to do a continuity test is it necessary to touch with the multimeter probe any point of exposed metal of the chassis? Or do I have to touch exactly and directly the negative pole of the battery...

    No continuity on cooker circuit.

Not getting a continuity reading on the cooker circuit. I'm doing I.r. test and its low between l. N. Any ideas what the issue could be. The cooker sockets is working also.

    Continuity between lives

I think i might of asked this before but Here goes again, on my flat cu with the mcbs off if I use my voltage tester between a lighting circuit and socket radial I get continuity? Why is that? But of I power up one mcb the others don't get powered up.

CPC low R2 continuity reading ring final

Hi, I've just been testing a ring final before installing an outdoor socket and I got an R1 and rn of 0.6, but instead of 1.01 for R2 I got a range of readings from 0.1 to 0.51 and it wouldn't settle down, so I couldn't continue the tests. I know parallel paths could cause a low reading, but...

EICR Failure - lack of continuity

Hi All, Many of you have been assisting me with a different EICR issue. Your contribution has been invaluable. This post is not related to that. I had an EICR undertaken on an installation which has a 4 year old CU with 9 circuits and RCD's. This was failed due to the following: No continuity...

EICR - No Line or CPC Continuity on Ring

Here's one I wasn't expecting on an EICR. Recently rewired and renovated 2-bed property (2015ish). Having an EICR as a new tenant to move in soon. No reported problems. I expected to be in and out in about 3-4 hours to be honest, and as expected I found nothing wrong until I began my ring final...

Confirming earth bonding continuity when cannot isolate supply

Hi, just wondering how other sparks, go about confirming main earth bonding continuity when supply cannot be isolated, ze and pfc can be enquired wich is fine but what happens if you cant disconnect main bonding earth, is previous test results good enough to confirm?visual checks good enough...

    Continuity between live conductors

On my cu at home I have a continuity reading between my ring final circuit and a radial circuit of 114ohms between live conductors. When I test continuity from each breaker. Why would that be? Break down of cable If I turn one off and leave the other on I don't get a voltage. At what point...

3 x RFC all with no continuity

Working on an empty property which has 4 RFCs. 3 of these are showing no continuity across R1 R2 and Rn. The wiring is around 30 years old and each room has 2/3 single sockets. Each of these sockets is fed by a single 2.5mm T&E. What's going on here? Is it likely the sockets are being fed from a...

    Continuity on isolated circuit

Hi a DIYer here, I am planning on adding a socket spur to a ring circuit. I isolated the MCBs and RCBs and main switch at the Consumer Unit. I tested (using the voltage and continuity tester seen below in the video) if there was isolation there and all was in order. When I got to the socket, I...

Continuity for Neutral and cpc in TNCS due to PEN conductor?

Hi, I am struggling to understand one concept if anyone could shed some light. as TNCS has combined neutral and Cpc so if on the consumer side hypothetically if you check continuity on N+Cpc without disconnecting any conductor, do we get continuity of Neutral and CPC as on the supply side, its...

Why have I no continuity signal here?

Hi all, first post, and pre-emptive thank you for your help. In anticipation of redoing all of the wiring with the computer I'm putting together, I decided to add a PET sleeve to a pair of my headphones this morning. Having just spent about $500 Cdn in connectors, wires, decent crimpers, all...

UK Continuity Between Line and Earth

Just tested the end to end resistance on a ring main at a socket outlet. Readings are spot on however when changing the crocodile clips I notice that I have around 600ohms of resistance between the Line and Earth conductors. The system is TT. What could be the cause of this?

continuity tester and proving unit also required?

Hi. We have a circuit where some of the sockets have a dangerously high earth loop impedance. This was identified by a professional electrician. I was thinking of rewiring this, as a DIY project. For safety, I want to ensure the replacement is done to spec. Buying a multifunction tester seems...
