Though I'd ask what some of you use when extending cables for a consumer unit change. I always would have thought crimps and heat shrink to be the best way, but wago push connectors seem to be not bad. Quicker to use and a better hold on solid core cable (t&e)
Hi all,
Looking at extending a telephone cable but the joint will be outside due to the long run up the side of house.
Is it best to just use one of the IDC junction boxes? Does it need to be IP rated?
Thanks
Hello,
For the first time I need to use some 25mm uninsulated crimps. These connections are going into a junction box. My plan is to put heat shrink over them to insulate.
Is heat shrink ok to do this job? Also what current rating are these crimps? Anything else I should be looking out for...
Howdy all.
Bad day at the office, on a block of flats at the minute. Ran in cables for intercom system and phone lines also tv's. The builder has gone and cored a nice 4 inch hole right through the lot :frown2:. Ceiling now tacked so running new ones in is going to be a pain in the ---...
Hi all, new to the forum so go easy!Ha......At work we have a pump with a 3 phase motor attached.....the wires that come from the winding are 50mm....The lid with the incoming flex has 70mm tails.....yes i know this is wrong but i was going to use 70mm through crimps and just crimp it a bit...
Found these online earlier...
LINE 32A IN LINE [LIL32] - £0.11 : for electricians by electricians
Never used them personally, anyone got any opinions?
Can they be heatshrinked like a crimp or do they have to be within and enclosure?
(by the way, this is my second attempt to post on this...
When using red through crimps on .75 flex, with enough force should I be able to pull the cable out? I can't seem to get a tight enough crimp, it takes some force but I can pull it out. Is it the crimper?
Hi all, looked at a job today to replace 5 x single sockets to 5 x doubles. Looks like the CCU was changed maybe 4 or 5 years ago but no paperwork - the property has the old wiring in place - red, black and unsheathed cpc. The single sockets are only 4 inches from floor level so i will need to...
Just a quick question..
Just wondering, if was to replace a single socket that isnt working for a double socket, the cable are too short, are we allowed just to extend the cables with a connector block in the socket?
Sorry if daft question
Hi all
Is there anywhere in the regs about using crimps in a consumer unit?
I have a 32a ring circuit and would like to add some additional sockets in a room where the consumer unit is. There are no local sockets nearby and no spare ways in consumer unit. Therefore, I was planning on extending...
Hi all
Joining a looped neutral in a plaster mounted lighting switch box.
Back in my sad old day... we used plastic connector blocks, which I seem to remember were binned a while back.
What are people using these days?
I watched the sparky on a site the other week crimping all his connections...
I think I have gleaned sufficiently from other posts that it is acceptable to use good quality inline crimps to extend cables for terminatingwithin a newly installed CU. Invariably, for 2.5mm T&E and 1.5mm T&E these crimps will be red in colour. I ask the experienced electricians on this forum...
I need to extend a slightly too short 10mm2 cable by a few inches in a consumer unit.
For smaller cables, I've used heatshrink butt crimps, but the biggest size I've got is for 6mm2 cable.
Does anyone know if you can get something similar for 10mm2 cable?
Hi All
i just can't get on with crimps - I have the drapper rachet tool and draper crimps set.
I can sometimes get nice tight connection but on a few I can pull the conductor out with a pull!
Where am I going wrong? I squeeze the tool all the way until it releases.
I expose approx 8-10mm of...
Hi, I have some 185mm single cables terminated into an isolator. on inspection one of the cables is not fully inserted into the crimp. The is tight into the crimp but I can see thru the inspection hole it is not fully home. Is it ok to leave or should it be re-terminated? is there are chance of...
There's one problem with this site - too much bl**dy information :devil2:
You think you've got your head around something and then you spend hours reading more posts and it does your head in
Anyway for a crimper virgin, can some one explain where/why you would use the following crimps...
as above i've seen a few posts and from what i can make out everybody does this . I dont know the BS number but was led to believe they are a maintenance free compression joint ,
and when heatshrinking as well i would say have good protection from water ingress moisture etc.
A new lad has...
Called to a ring main fault. Customer has had some work done about 3/4 months ago. Have not yet found the fault but noticed on inspection 3 of these ring main extensions. What do you think. 15amp thru crimps!!
