B type rcd's do you fit them ?

I haven't come across many type b rcd's are they widely used yet ? Getting a new megger 1720 or 1730 the more expensive one (1730) States it tests them but the other does not Is it worth the extra cash ? I know the 1730 has Bluetooth and the earth electrode kit but I won't use them so it would...

    Eddy Currents

I vaguely remember an illustration in one of my books showing 3 phases of a supply entering metal trunking seperately, and the words ' THIS ARRANGEMENT IS NOT PERMITTED' emblazoned beneath it. However I have been going through all my books and cannot find it..... Anyone know what I'm on about?

Test currents applied by a loop tester

Can anybody advise how much test current is applied when using a 1552 meggar on Zs. Somebody suggests that it could be as high as 6 amp's? Thanks

    motor starting currents

I posted a question about motor overloads yesterday and this is a follow up. my client (the pool builder) has asked me to provide the FLC and starting current for the Architect to work out the required house supply. Why would the architect need to know the starting current?

Fault currents providing instantaneous disconnection/ thermal withstand of cables.

HI. I have recently installed some circuits at work and i am having problems proving that the fuses will disconnect before the cables used get to their max permitted temperature. The two circuits are as follows: 1. 6mm L,N,E singles connected to a 32 amp HRC fuse...

Eddy Currents affecting energy check meters.

Hiya everybody I'm a long time reader first time poster of this wonderfull forum and I just wanted your opinion on Eddy currents? I was asked to test some electricity meters on a static caravan park recently as the owners were complaining about their bills, and whilst i was in the meter...

    Heater start up currents

Hi fellas I've got an outdoor heating circuit that I'm trying to fault find. There are four heaters under a parasol each rated at 1.5kW that are tripping two MCBs in series. One is on the main board the other is in a separate unit dedicated to the outdoor circuit. When the heaters are cold if...

    Harmonic currents

Greetings I have a quick question about neutral harmonic currents. I have done a little reading on the subject and I understand how harmonic currents from the three phases are in phase with each other and hence sum in the neutral. The third harmonic has three times the frequency of a standard...

    type A RCD

hi all, is there anything i should know about type A RCD's(RCD not MCB). i.e. testing, never come across them before. i'm told domestic charging points for electric cars are using them. any ideas what else they are used in.

    A solution for eddy currents

Need to provide a 3 phase supply from an MCCB board to a changeover panel. The MCCB board and changeover panel are side by side connected by 3 x 50mm brass bushes. The brass bushes have around 13inches (In old money) vertical between them. Now we can only get 2 wires through each hole (120mm...

Isolating transformer to deal with inrush currents?

I have a problem at a remote site in Africa where we are running a couple of prime power generator sets (FG Wilson 220/380, 50 Hz (1500 rpm) 450 kVA (409 kVA prime power) single set operation, no synchronization, controlled by a transfer switch. The alternator is connected star, and earth...

    The currents live

Just been to triplesolar's warehouse at 7 this morning and they have got stock flying. Gezzer just opened a side lock up with about a 100 SMA Sunny Boy inverters. Looks like they have been hoaring all the SMA inverters in the UK:whatchutalkingabout......

    Neutral currents

I’ve just added a calculation to the 3ph spreadsheet to calculate the neutral current in an unbalanced 3ph load. PM me with your E-Mail address if you want a copy. PS it doesn’t take PF in to account, if you want that, take up DIY!

    Very high prospective fault currents.

Ze 0.02 giving a PEFC reading of 12.4kA which equates correctly; high but acceptable with fitted 100A BS 1361 supply fuse. However, PSC reading of >50kA. Instrument (Fluke1653B) checks out ok. Any ideas? Will be contacting supplier when I discover who the supply company is.

    Parallel feeder cable Question

Hello All. Not been on here for a while, hoping you guys can help me with this one. We installed 185mm single copper core aluminium armoureds (2*185mm per line conductor each run 170m) to an MCC feeder. The intend was to use the aluminium armourings as the main CPC. My question is, how can i...
