Hello all forum users.
I am currently training as an electrician and have been able to identify some DNO cut out fuses rating but i have one in a rented property im staying in that has no identifying marks on it apart from BICC MK2. It looks old.
My question is is this a standard pull out...
What is difficult about this, one building formally a pub, hotel, restaurant, with a 3 phase supply, the property at some time in the past ceased being a hotel but remained a pub restaurant, the rooms were converted in to 2 flats and supplied with one phase each from the existing 3 phases, a...
I'd like to test, my house.
Pictured, is the DNO main earth in my house.
If I find the braiding is detriorated in anyway,
1. Can I replace with a 16mm earthing conductor ?
2. Or do I have to call the DNO ?
3. Should I just leave as is ?
4. What test could I do to prove it fit for purpose, or...
Hi Guys, I was called out to a house in the countryside to do a shower replacement. The homeowner had already got the plumber to install the new shower, (an 8.5 kw to replace a broken 9.5 kw model) and wanted me to connect the shower an issue a Minor Works Cert.
I do all my tests on the wiring...
Hi all.
It seems there has been quite some different opinions in my classroom as to who should really change the earth cable in the incoming position where the 100A fuse is, in domestic installations.
Can any qualified electrician, change the earth cable at the DNO side? Say for example on an...
Well can't say I'm shocked but I wonder what the meter guy was thinking while mounting this meter on this free standing backboard?
Note the age of the incomer and the half sized N tail (First one) ... I hope its just a solid link in that fuse holder :whatchutalkingabout
Hi
Just to make sure I have this covered, how much space do the DNO & provider normally require for the fuse unit and meter? And what is the preferred height?

Today I witnessed my first electrical BANG !
When someone actually blew the DNOs fuse.
Just so no-one else does it, it was caused by joining L+N at the RCD with the busbar.
Interested to know what other people's normal practice is for completing the "supply protective device rated current" box on the EICR form, given that we can't pull the DNO fuse. Do you trust the amperage label (60A, 80A, 100A, etc.) on the fuse carrier? Or is that in fact the maximum rating of...
Anyone care to comment on my reasoning, calculation and conclusion here?
I'm doing an EICR on a TNS system, with copper 4mm2 DNO earthing conductor (insulated) between main supply cable and MET (and then 16mm2 earthing conductor to CU and 10mm2 MPBCs). DNO fuse is BS1361 Type 2, rating...
Not an earth shattering revelation, but after group slagging of the usual suspects,my faith in folk was bolstered today...Rang DNO (Electricity Northwest) yesterday 3pm re;an overdue upgrade on a property i own, vintage 1937, 4pm dude landed, said it's well due, lads will land tomorrow. Chaps...
Hi,
Could someone point me in the right direction with regards to getting a new three phase supply put in?
I need to get a new 3phase supply installed to a new garage building on a domestic property, the client is thinking he may want to run a couple of lathes, nothing very big, but also feed...
I hope there are some guys who are working in DNO (distribution network operator) as metering point maintenance engineers. My questing is for them. What kind of devices you use to perform meter testing works? Do you use some kind of portable standart watt-meters, simple load resistance devices...
Hello all, Friday night around 11pm I had a phone call, saying over the last couple days they think they have seen smoke coming from there downlights, (they decided to ignore this) until 11pm the next day!! I arrived at the property had a Look at the downlights (non firerated) and noticed abit...
As the title says.
Old fusebox in a cabinet in kitchen, dno's board fills the cabinet, old skeleton fusebox currently located just above the board.
Is it a no no to mount the new cu on their board?
Looking at a job where shower is required, and amongst all the other requirements, contacted the DNO to enquire what the incoming supply capacity is. The cut out fuse has no marking that states its rating, existing meter>CU tails are 16mm but will be using separate CU for shower circuit via...
The DNO earthing on a TN-S supply to the MET block is no more than 6mm. On the customers side the Main earthing from CU to MET is in 16mm and the bonding to the Gas and Water is in 10mm.
The Ze readings are low at 0.13, is there a requirement to get the earthing from the MET to the supply head...
I have a church with living quarters they used to be two seperate properties. Two dno tn-s supplied into either end of each building.! There is one boiler to do the lot, one water supply one gas supply. The boiler is supplied via one dno but main bonded via the other dno supply.! Any thoughts if...

which we have to complete prior to connecting a heat pump.
