Hi All
Recently joined the forum to ask for some information.
I recently bought a flat to let. I was advised by the letting agent to get the electrics tested, although not a legal requirement. The test was carried out by their electrical contractor. He failed the test due to the fuse board not...
Hi All,
Ive just got my results through and I failed my first attempt of AM2 exam on the live testing of inspection and testing. I passed everything else just the live testing simply all because I ran out of time that was allowed for the inspection and testing. So Im gonna try and get re booked...
hi all,
Failed my AM2 on IR test.
Just a query do you have to remove both the nuetral and the cpc fly lead from RCBO when doing a global test? I did this but I did not put the cpc from the ring final in to the MET bar. I tested the ring circuit, motor and strappers separately. That’s the only...
Hello Members,
Just been told I have failed my EX04. Visual, close and detailed inspections on IS circuits. Basically don’t know what I missed? Fault wise? From memory their was the obvious bolt missing from JB, missing stoppers, damaged cable, IS earth going to dirty earth. Barrier the wrong...
hi guys,
Could someone please tell me why the ‘insulation’ has failed on this pat test please? I thought over 1MOhm was ok?
The test is on a fan in a dental surgery.
Thanks
So despite us all giving advice to other people about not having a go at electrics I always like to have a go at any other trade at every opportunity (as long as it is legal and safe!) I have tried car spraying and tonight I had a go at car window tinting and failed miserably (I have previously...
Looking for some advice please - My stepson is 3rd year apprentice
Can anyone tell me: If the apprentice fails his exams, who's time does the resits come out of? The company or the apprentice (i.e unpaid leave)
For the last six years we have tested a five pitch caravan park on a farm. First year I rewired between all the meters and switchgear because the Caravan Club rightly condemned it, see pics of my efforts. Only two of the original rcds have been replaced since. This week one of the pitched...
Hello all,
I had a smart meter install date today (both utilities) with npower as the provider.
The engineer, on a quick inspection of the existing setup said he could not continue as the existing 'tails' coming from the CU have had their outer grey sheath stripped too far back.
Is it part...
Hi, I have a job coming up to replace a CU. It has failed a few tests so has to be replaced. It is a large house and the board is a two tier one so will replace with similar. Whilst surveying the old board I noticed two 63 amp mcb's one supplying an extension to the house this has a ring and...
Hi all,
I had an assessment yesterday and failed :(. The reason I failed was there were ring circuits that had mcb's and not rcbos. the apartments I showed were ones that the company I work for provided the apartments and are ones in which I installed and tested but were digned 2- 3 years ago...
hi everyone
My mk1 Focus has developed the following electrical problems over a very short period of time (2 weeks). I can't believe that this is due to individual faults and was wondering if anyone could shed any light on the problem and if there is a fault in common easily fixed

Hi all,
Ive recently attended an EAL 4337 & 4338 combined course in Chadderton Oldham, I passed my practical with out to much issue, however I have now failed both Initial and periodic exams TWICE by just a couple of marks (this happened today) now not wanting to apportion blame but the other...
Tested a Crabtree Polestar board today full of Sector rcbos, tested many of these boards and never seen this. The only Crabtree devices were two mcbs but the Sector devices are identical to Crabtree devices. Out of the nineteen four failed which is something you don't get with Crabtree rcbos...
Good morning, everybody. I have just registered on these forums in order that I might seek some advice re a car electrics issue. I am not an electrician so I have not bothered introducing myself on the welcome page. Hopefully this is acceptable.
I am trying to help an elderly friend get his...
Hi All
I would be very grateful if anyone has experienced and failed Astro Terra 28 (or others) LEDs. I have recently wired parallel and series over the years but have stumbled recently on how 6x 1w leds failed using a 5.95-10w 350mA constant current led driver. I have tested the circuit which...
Hi, lookin for a bit info for a mate, he has been in the fire alarm industry for about 15 years and done the college of an electrical apprenticeship but never passed the fica, would he be able to do his fica after all this time ?
Thanks in advance
Hi,
I would have thought it unusual for an RCD to fail? However, I have come across a Wylex WRS80/2 which gives >400ms reading for the 1X RCD test using a Megger 1552MFT. A no trip fail.
Could there be some other reason for this result?
Any help appreciated.
Regards,
Trenelly
Hi all, just trying to find out whether anyone has come across a similar issue with Orona lifts? We have been notified that
ropes have failed as a result of unequal spring tension in the ropes. Could this be manutacturer's fault at all? thanks for any advice.
Hi All,
It looks like I have a failed SE optimiser (showing zero voltage on monitoring portal). The system was installed in November 2011.
My installation company appears to have been dissolved. What are my options for getting it replaced?
We are in SN14, near Bath.
Thanks,
Andy
