Hi, I'm currently looking at moving a socket so it's under the worktop for a washing machine in the kitchen, however I need to be able to switch off the socket. Am I right in thinking that I need to fit a fused spur above the worktop in order to do this?
While visiting some friends down south I noticed they still had the cardboard wiring info on their coffee maker, so removed it as not for final use. What was curious is it specifies a 7A fuse, and while I have seen and used some odd ones before (e.g. 1A, 10A) this first time I have seen on...
We have a Electrical PLC Control Panel that has to supply 45 Fused Spur units, do I need to protect these with an RCD, we have a 10A Type D MCB at the moment.
Each Fused spur controls an electronic Volume/Pressure controller which is rated at 130mA.
So the situation is this:
Historic 4 story townhouse to 4 flats conversion.
Supplier 3-phase cut out coming in at basement level (One of these will have a 60amp fuse, unsure whether the other 2 contain solid links or additional 60amp fuses yet).
1 phase feeding basement.
4-core SWA containing...
Hi all,
BS1363 Switch fused spur with flex outlet has been installed. But the installer hasn't used the flex outlet, they've used singles in conduit and the cable grips are still in place on the spur. However the client has challenged this, implying it should be changed out to a standard spur...
Hi all, could I have opinions on the use of rcd fused please.
Customer has old 3036 at the front of the house.
They want a couple points on there new decking for festoon type lighting switch from inside.
There is a t and e switch fed outside light already so I'm thinking of coming off this to an...
Hi all,
Hoping you can help.
My house has a ring in the kitchen that is no longer wired direct to the consumer unit as it had a fault and kept blowing. It was believed that it might be an 'open ring' and a socket had been removed from the ring at some time in the past. (I think that was what...
Builder installed 175w / sq metre in an area 6.7 x 3.5. What should the fused spur be rated at and should it have a contractor as well?
Am I correct in thinking it is drawing just over 17A therefore 13A fused spur is insufficient?
Thanks
Hi, Ive got an upcoming job to determine the cause of a BS88 fuse tripping in a switched fuse unit that powers a 125A consumer unit yet none of the MCB's trip, Just the one cartridge fuse.
What is a concern about this site is that the old fused switch unit is 63A, yet it is feeding a 125A...
In the hallway we have a fused switch that operates the towel ladder in the downstairs bathroom. Any possible issues in replacing with a smart switch? I don't know of any with an integrated fuse.
Just a quick question from a new qualified sparky.
So in 433.1.204 when it says the Iz of the cable must not be less than 20A for a ring final circuit.
Does this include a radial fused spur taken off the ring final?
If you install it in 2.5mm in trunking then the Iz is immediately down to 20A...
Hi all,
a friend has asked me to install him 2 sockets behind his wall mounted TV as to hide the cables. Obviously he wants minimal damage so extending the ring isn’t an option as the nearest sockets are low level on an adjacent wall and are fed from above (he’s also made it clear we can’t come...
I’ve just replaced a faulty 63A double pole isolator supplying a feed to a consumer unit several meters away to a flat.
ive come to do the notification on the niceic web page and there is no appropriate category to tick other than
circuit addition or alteration in a special locatiom
install a...
As most people really don't have an understanding of electricity whatsoever, and the amount of times I have come across the wrong size fuse in a plug or FCU.
I don't know but surely this should be addressed somehow.
Moulded plugs are all good as well on the new table lamp somebody has just...
Was wondering why was BS1361 replaced by BS88 even though BS1361 tends to have a larger breaking capacity according to the on-site guide if I'm reading it right, however, I maybe wrong.
For example BS1361 breaking capacity can be 16.5kA to 33kA depending on what type you get, where BS88 is 16kA...
Hi gorgeous people.
I've just been looking at a garage to re-establish the lights in it and put up a couple of LED battens but I have come across an uncommon set up which is making me scratch my head a bit. Any comments would be welcome...
The garage is fed by 10m of swa 2.5mm from the lounge...
A quick question regarding tails and the 3m length.
I need to move a consumer unit, however it will be around 5m from the DNO cutout. Is it acceptable to install a REC2 isolator at the meter cabinet, 3m tail length to an accessible position and then a fused main switch, followed by around 2m of...
Setup:
Consumer unit fed via sub main from a 60A fused isolator switch. This is connected to the service head MET via a 2m earth connection.
How would one go about both calculating and documenting the Zs?
Would you be treating the fused isolator switch as it’s own db and therefore be...
Afternoon All,
DIY'er here, Just wanted to run through something which I'm pretty sure is simple but, I just want some claification.
I have some electric wall heaters that have a fused switch on the wall.
I have taken one down as I no longer want it in the room it is in. (obviously with power...
