The 3036 re-wireable fuse link was invented long, long, ago, but according to the standards list became a BS standard about 1957.
Tried and trusted in standard form, it has probably been the most abused electrical component, with wrong fuse wire, paper clips, hair clips, copper wire etc...
1991 GMC Sonoma compact pickup
So i am guessing the previous owner installed an after market lighter socket as it has an inline fuse behind it. The lighter is also connected to a blade fuse in the fuse box. I checked continuity on the lighter and I have a closed circuit. When I got it the...
Apologies for newbie question- I'm only an occasional sparky and get stumped by these things from time to time- What's the best way to get hold of these old Wylex fuses? I presume they're not made any more like this? Hope this picture comes over OK....
Was searching around previous threads going back into 2016 reference to pulling the fuse upstream of the meter. Trying to find whether it makes the meter go doolally with self preservation!
I’ve only pulled the fuse on one modern smart and it was ok, we’ll it didn’t shreak at me!
I’ve got a...
Hello, I am new to PAT testing by myself as I just used to do it with an ex employer. We always changed the fuses of the plugs if they were overrated, mainly most had 13A fuses. Now I work for my-self I have carried out pat testing on new Items for a landlord, whether new items need pat testing...
Hi Guys & Gals,
I was working recently on fixing a 2KW electrical heater. I came across this thread on this forum:
Domestic - Advice please fuse keeps blowing - https://www.electriciansforums.co.uk/threads/advice-please-fuse-keeps-blowing.66924/
Although it was abit jumbled (and I cannot...
Hello
Right I cannot get my head around this one.
I have a 3 lamp chandelier - I have done a drawing of the connections below.
It has been placed on the 1st floor 5amp lighting main in the existing ceiling rosette (which previously had a 80 watt filament bulb.)
I bought a LED dimmer switch...
Yeh so thought I would check the main fuses and still can't tell what rating they are. I did contact the man from the DNO who said no hurry the next few months will do. @Leesparkykent he did say there are no penalty charges right now but come April there will be. We spoke with the energy...
How would you code the following?
No RCD protection. I coded c2
Not amendment 3 compliant. I coded C3
Meter tails 16mm. I coded C3
Tested the installation and the test results were all compliant with BS7671.
Just been asked the question can a new 3 phase supply be installed into an existing DB that has BS88 fuses in and all current 3 phase supplies are fed from individual fuses or does it need the DB taking out and replacing with a modern 3 phase DB with MCB'S? Just want to get what other people...
I had a quick job yesterday where the customer said he lost power to some kitchen sockets, I went round and he had an old wilex board with rewireable fuses. All the sockets in the house were on two 30A fuse wires. Most sockets in the kitchen were in a ring on 1 and the rest of the house must...
Hi,
I'm working up an estimate for a board change for a flat in a small block.
Checking for the main incomers in the Dry riser cupboards and of
course the labels are 'inconclusive' to say the least!
I confess in the past I've just pulled fuses (one was 5 fuses until the right one) but whacking...
Hi,
So last year we bought a house and didn't go through and label the fuses. There are 15 in the box.
The previous owners wanted to install an infra-sauna in the upstairs bathroom, and put in a cable but never put in the sauna. This was turned off at the fuse box, but we never paid attention...
Hi all,
A company had some minor problems with a bussbar fitted, all got renewed and working completely fine but as a precaution they wanted a test on the bars (IR,Zs etc)
whilst i was there i used our thermal imaging camera on the joints just to check no loose connections etc and i noticed...
Hi

One of my client has on his boat an old Wylex fuse box with fuse wire, like the one in that video.
It's used on his 12V DC system. I think that it's not safe, but wanted to check with yous first.
As explained on this page, AC fuses which are not DC rated should not be used on DC circuits. DC...
hi all, I posted about this recently and didn't manage to get back online till now.
I've got a Fluke 1653b multi function meter. In the last few weeks it has stopped recording Ze and Zdb readings ( readings on L-E setting) are 0.00 and on L-N reading are0.00 and PFC is 10kA ( this only happens...
