    British Gas Meter Bonding

Just been looking at a family members house and electrics; about 2 years ago the Gas Board moved their meter from under the stairs to a box outside. Anyhow they have not run any bonding to the meters new position and have bonded onto a gas pipe not far the original meter position, which is where...

Hi everyone, Wasn’t here for a while, would like to get some opinions on my issue, if you don’t mind folks. Gas bonding issue, gas incoming pipe is at one point and it’s boded as soon as it enters the premises, the meter is about 20 meters inside the premises, I have my boss insisting that...

Proximity of gas meter to electric oven

Anyone know how close a gas meter can be to an electric oven? Just see plans of a replacement kitchen where the oven is directly above the gas meter.... is it 300mm? The kitchen isn't very big and moving either the gas meter, or the oven could be tricky!

Bonding neighbours gas pipe in this property...

We are rewiring a house. The neighbour's gas pipe passes, uninsulated, through the house due to what seems like a bit of suspect extension building last century. I feel that, as this is an extraneous conductive part, it should be bonded to the earth terminal of the installation (it is within...

When there is no Earth and the fault grounds out through gas service (picture)

I'd be running for the hills. I wonder if the person taking the picture was aware of the grave danger they were in standing there!

Locating main bnding in the gas meter box?

I just wanted to get peoples view on locating the main bonding in the external meter box? I may be getting a job (awaiting quote to be viewed) where I believe it would be easier to main bond in the meter box. During the pre-work visit I could not locate where the gas pipe comes into the house...

    Gas soldering iron for heatshrink?

I am looking for the best way to shrink heatshrink (cordless)? I have used the Iroda micro-therm which was awful so I bought a heat gun to use instead, see pic below. However, I find it too much for heatshrink and after a few seconds (even on low setting) a flame envelopes the heatshrink...

    Electric oven Gas hob

Hi all. Great forum, really useful! Just bought an ex rental property which was in a bit of a mess. We're replacing the electric oven and gas hob. No real modifications are being done, but just wanted a sanity check on the wiring for these appliances. Does the below look acceptable in...

    Life is a (British) Gas

Got a call from a local guy this week, said he is getting a fishy smell when using his shower. Went to have a look, had got 25mm tails from his main CU along with a pair of 6mm singles (with a few strands chopped off both tails) going to a separate Wylex 3036 jammed into the outgoing side of the...

New Gas meter fitted at factory - Earth Bonding Q

Hi all, Just has a new gas meter fitted at our factory. Was left an advice notice that there was no earth bond within 600mm of meter outlet. The problem with this is the meter is 20 meters away from the building in a little 1970s hut all on its own with a paved parking area in between. The...

British Gas UP2 failing to turn on Central Heating except when Hot Water is on

OK, so I'm not a plumber but have a fairly good idea how this system works. I'm not alone with this problem either, there has been a similar post but it's old and doesn't have a resolution - though they have a temporary fix that doesn't work for me... Boiler: Baxi Solo 15HE Controller: BG UP2...

    Old gas pipe

Doing an EICR of a large B&B place. Totally re-wired in 2008 so not a big issue as its well labelled and been done to a good standard. Not sure on 1 bit though. In the cellar, gas and water pipes are bonded fine. But it looks like the gas had been upgraded at the time of the refurb and the...

Hi I had my gas boiler serviced a few weeks ago and just received the invoice. I haven't received any other paperwork in regards to the service. Isn't it compulsory to issue some sort of cert. We don't even know if the boiler was ok. If I have a Periodic Inspection of the electrical...

Hey everybody, This one has me puzzled - my gas and electricity usage has suddenly gone up by approx 2.5 times. We've not changed anything.
