    Isolating grounds in Solar installation

I have 400 Amp service split into two 200 Amp panels. I’m converting one to a protected loads panel as part of a PV solar system with battery backup. Since ground is tied to neutral I want to isolate the neutral and ground buses of one panel from the other to make sure no current flows to the...

Earthing neutral in a multi source system

This has me clueless. Why must the neutral be unearthed at the transformer and generator and only allowed earthing at the switch-gear? I can't see any reason because the neutral will normally not be carrying any current and thus no parallel current paths would form.

How to wire for "electrically sensitive" people

Hey everyone, I believe I may be one of the crazy people who thinks they are "electrically sensitive"... I hate that I am that guy, but this is kind of where I find myself. I'm convinced that the farther from all electrical stuff I sleep, the better I sleep, and I've kind of gotten obsessed...

    Grounding a 1500 watt inverter

I'll cut to the chase - bought a 1500 watt pure sine wave inverter, which has a small screw and a nut coming out of the chassis labeled "ground", and they provide an associated 12 inch wire, ring at one end, that I can of course attach and tighten down to this exterior screw. The other end of...

Disconnect, grounding and mechanical protection requirements when bringing power to a chicken coop...

Hi, I want to bring 2 x 20A (@120V) to a chicken coop. It will be powered from my garage panel which will require 140' of cable. 85' in the garage along 2 walls, and 55' buried between the garage and the coop. I used a few voltage drop calculators and it looks like I will need a 6/3 to stay...

Hi, newbie here seeking advice. I have a semi-truck box trailer I'm converting into a workshop. Wheels and suspension have been removed and it’s sitting on railroad ties on the ground. Because it’s not on a permanent foundation I'm not allowed to permanently wire it to the house. I have chosen...

    Inverter grounding

Hello, can anyone please tell me why my 1500w inverter has an extra connection for an earth, and came with a rather thin earth cable? I figured that because the -ve from the inverter goes to the -ve on the leisure battery, which in turn is earthed back to the starter battery -ve, there is no...

    Transformer Neutral Grounding

    Grounding advice on older property

Hi, I’ve just been to look at a job to add a socket in a ex-mod (1960ish) domestic property. The cables are singles pulled through metal conduit in between the ground and first floor. The problem is that the sockets have no CPC conductor in the back box so I ‘assumed’ that the CPC was fed...

    Grounding Question

Hi guys, I'm trying to better understand how grounding works. I got the basic idea of it, but still have a lot of questions about it. K, so from my understanding, if you touch the neutral bar on a service panel you will not get shocked (because it is grounded). But why do you get shocked if you...
