Exposed by recent gas mains replacement, Also exposed were the old tram lines. The cable looks all armour and no conductors?
Could it possibly be an part of an "earthing system" for the tram tracks/lines?
Hi All,
I'm living in a pretty dangerous situation - Please can you help?
A few months ago, the electricity in my first/second floor flat blew out, as did my neighbours. It turns out that there was a fault in a mains component under the stairs.
I had to get an electrician out late at night...
Hi all,
If anyone could identify these downlights I'd be grateful. Obviously they look like a fire rated, integrated LED fitting, just not a brand I'd usually use. Customer would like some more in a house he's just bought.
Many thanks
Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help identify this bulb, it's from a compact tractor which has four of them in the front lights. It looks a bit like H11 but I don't think the lugs look quite correct. They don't give the impression of being anything like 55W either.
Shot from the end to try and...
Hi all,
I'm trying to get this old doorbell working. I bought some C batteries but they were too short for the slot. In the attached photo you'll see the exposed slot. The cover was lost a while ago so I have no brand name to go on.
I bent the contacts inwards to fit the C batteries but they...
Working on a refurbishment of an early 1980's flat and found this in the kitchen.
Yellow conduit is plastic, so it could be gas. Does anyone know what it is?
Hi All,
Just brought a 1960 semi-detached house, and the front bedroom has this wire running along the wall.
Does anybody know what it could be?
Electrics are still original 1960.
Hi all. I recently had a 300w inverter go pop and I'd really like to try to repair it if possible (it's a valuable part of a solar energy system). Upon first inspection, the big metallized polypropylene film capacitor right next to the AC output has burnt. I've no idea if there is any further...
Hello,

I know I should get someone in, but don't have the ££, so hoping you can...

If you want to save on your monthly electric bill and reduce your greenhouse gas emissions at the same time, you might buy a new, energy-efficient refrigerator. Or water heater. Or clothes dryer. But if you can only replace one of these, which will give you the biggest payback?
You could try to...
Hello,
I recently bought a 1960s-built house.
It had an electric storage heater in it that I wanted to remove. A notice on the heater said to remove the bricks before undoing the wall mounts so I went about taking the bricks out. This was fine for the layer in front of the heating elements but...
Hi There - I have a 2002 Mazda Bongo, imported from Japan. I am about to refit the satnav unit and the vehicle has what I believe is a factory fit reversing camera (same body colour housing mounted to the rear number plate). There are two connectors from the reversing camera into the rear of the...
Good Morning all
Can anyone confirm what this 3ph DB in the photo is?
I believe it is a Crabtree C50 but looking for some confirmation from more experienced eyes.
Many Thanks
A distant customer that wants his accessories renewed has sent an image of the style of switch plate he wants to match.
I cannot see a similar model on-line, without travelling many miles just to have a look, I wondered if anyone here may be able to identify the make?
The switch keys appear...
I saw this hanging from the ceiling of a Royal Mail collection depot. Do you have any idea what it is/does?
They were too busy for me to be able to ask them. I hoped the picture would be better but I guess if you have installed one you would recognise it anyway.
Thanks.
