Just had new consumer fitted during recent kitchen revamp. Had a couple of external sockets fitted as well.
One fixed to the rear exterior wall, while the other one is fitted inside the garage.
The Consumer Unit is Wylex (NHISS10SL) 10 Way Dual RCD
The Sockets are storm weatherproof...

having a debate onsite....changing some tubes in a 600x600 recessed fitting with a prismatic diffuser. I put the diffuser back in with the dimpled side up ( inside the fitting) and the smooth side down.
Been told this wrong and that the smooth side should be inside the fitting because it easier...
Hi All,
So far I've had two electricians tell me the electrics in our house are the worst they've ever seen. The funny thing is, there is a BS5499-1:2002 consumer unit installed.

Some backstory: We had a homebuyers report done before buying...
My electrician is currently working at my home doing some general rewiring in an extension room. I had asked to also rewire two brass wall lights and a brass chandelier. They are old pices of equipment from 1970 and they have been in store here for eight years. He found that one of the wall...
Hi guys.
Im new here, looking for some advice.
Just bought my first house, and naturally.. been poking about to see what the previous owners have been up to...
At the back of the house, on the outside of the wall, is a run of Steel armoured cable that runs to where the previous owners had...
Hi,
Just came across something earlier that made the have a think.
Distribution panel fed by 25mm cable.
This goes directly in to a D50 breaker.
The D50 feeds 4 6mm cables squeezed in top of the MCB that feeds small 3 phase bus bars, these in turn feed 1.5mm circuits.
I have fitted MCBs to...
Hello. New member asking question then never heard from again :) I've come across a cooker control switch where the cable leading to the flex outlet is too short. It appears that the wires were just resting in the terminals, not reaching the screws. Space is very tight and I don't think I can...
Hello there
I need to move an existing combined cooker switch/ 13 A socket in a new kitchen, as the hob will be directly below the existing location.
There is not enough 6mm cable to allow me to move it around 50cm to the left of existing position.
To avoid replacing the whole 6mm cable, one...
Installing sockets in a mobile unit/vehicle. Was going to use T&E but just looked in regs and it says bs6004 "flexible cables should be used". In regards to flexible cables am I right in presuming it must actually be flex cable or should T&E be sufficient?
Also installing a mains socket inlet...

Go down to page 8 of this document, you will see it asks for the contacts to fire the boiler up to be volt free, now i do finally understand i think what this means, it means that those...
Hello
I currently have a 2 gang light switch, but due to the style of light switches we plan to replace it with, I need to separate it into 2 individual switches.
My concern is that the wiring going into the current back box will not be long enough to connect to a second switch off to the...
Hi lads, just had a look at some wiring done in a friends bathroom. All looks good apart from elec rad.....
Feed to flex output for rad in 1.5mm t@e but the feed to the rcd fuse spur (outside of bathroom next to skt)is 0.75 flex.
Not seen this before, is it ok?
Rad is 400w
Cheers
Could somebody expalin why this " volt free contacts inside this electric boiler says volt free" but when the two cores leave from the zone valves will that not be 240 volts on those connections in the boiler??

Hi all, i am looking for a replacement part for an electrical power supply that takes standard UK mains and converts it to 24v. Below is a picture of the inside of the unit. The transformer inside seems rather large compared to other transformers i have looked at online. Just wondered if anyone...
