Making the trades (or fundamentally that knowledge behind them) accessible.

An idea has been swimming around my head since i started my journey to becoming a electrician; Are the trades (any) accessible to those with disabilities? What's everyone's thoughts on the matter? Let's not beat around the bush here, the trades are very physical and demanding jobs however I...

Never come across these before. This is on the ground floor of block of flats, with each holder for each flat. Thinking it must be a dist board with fuses, but could each holder be just a connection to tails. Ive not actually taken one out yet to see.

How would you know that you have had a power cut and electricity is coming through a generator instead of mains?

Hi sorry for the vague question. I'm looking more of a starting point. What do you have in place to know whether you are running on mains power, UPS, or a backup generator? If the mains should fail how would you know, how can you monitor it, and when it comes back active how would you know...

Things to know about EV charging points

Hi guys. I’ve bagged myself a new job fitting EV points, mainly commercially but with bits of domestic too. I haven’t accepted it yet, got to discuss a few things before I sign any contracts. I’ve only fitted one before, was a Rolec unit, nice and straight forward, needed two rods before I could...

Anyone know this plug style for a jump wire?

Hello, I'm trying to find this RED PLUG, but there are MANY styles out there so I cannot identify by name such as one model that is called an XT-90 (THIS IS NOT THAT). There are so many I think I'll never find it scrolling through pictures. Can any electricians identify it so I can buy one...

Please could you help me to retrain the correct and best way that you know?

Good afternoon, I have always loved things to do with electrics and always wanted to become an electrician. Life throws things at you which led to me becoming a DJ in Majorca instead. Covid 19 has decimated lives and livelihoods in 2020 and has meant I have lost all my work. I am extremely...

What do I need to know to calculate size of single phase motor?

About 20 years ago I bought an old table saw from a local school. I only had single phase at the time so I changed the motor and switchgear as it was 450V. I'm thinking of buying a 3 phase 50s bandsaw and have the same problem, but I can't remember how to work out the size of the replacement...

Anyone know much about shower pumps?

My own shower pump (pressure assist type) is behaving oddly and before I go ripping things apart wondered if anyone has any advice: It turns on (so the internal flow switch is OK), runs smoothly (no obvious sounds of the motor grinding to death) but after a few mins cuts out. Give it a while...
