Hi all, was wondering if is possible to wire a 3 amp table lamb directly to a mains light switch?
The light switch is used for an outside light has two brown wires going to the switch and two blue wires in a chocy block going nowhere?
Thanks.
Steve.
We have dusk to dawn Hi-Lo PIR outside lights installed 14 years ago. They use incandescent lamps.
These lamps have now failed and of course new ones are no longer available. I've tried an e27 dimmable led lamp but that's not working. Are there any e27 led bulbs we can use? We could replace the...
I'm about to change 40 x MR16/G5.3 fittings, do away with transformers and replace with mains GU10 Lamp holders double insulated and GU10 LEDs. I hoped to keep the existing Lamp fittings but was concerned as label states G5.3 12v 50w max.Is it safe to use GU10 LED in these fittings?
Hi there,
I was going to remove the dimmer and transformator from my halogen lamp so I could use it with LED bulbs (not dimmable). However, when I opened the little electronics box I overwhelmed.
I would appreciate some advice as to how to proceed with my plans.
The lamp holds 2 separately...
So picuture under cabinet lights, a 230 supply from a spur, to a LED tamlite driver, and 2 lights coming off of this... why is it that one of the lamps fails weekly and the other one has been going strong for over a year..
Hi, I’ll start off by saying I’m not qualified but have done some electrical work before and do the odd bit of DIY where I can.
I have an LED lamp that I would like to use with a plug in timer and it turns off fine. The problem is when it turns back on power goes to the built in switch (see...
Hi. First post here.
Background
I have a relative who is an electrician and is about to re-wire our home as a favour. I said that I will order and pay for all of the parts - so that they are here in on-site when he arrives to begin work.
I have already ordered a Hager consumer unit; the 10...
We have just bought this dimmable (three-stage) lamp.
The descriptions states: "Bulbs required 1 x golfball SES small edison eco halogen bulb"
Do you think it has to be an E14 dimmable "eco halogen" bulb? Or do you think I can I get an E14 dimmable LED bulb?
I'm looking to replace the cable on a lamp I bought but I am unable to separate the holder to access the connections. I have tried pushing in the black tabs to release the top but I haven't had any luck. Any advice on the best approach would be appreciated.
Good morning. I’m a apprentice electrician and I have done a job in my house changing a light. It’s a loop in system. I’ve put led G7 lamps in the new light however when I turn it off the lights still have a slight glow on them. I understand that this could die to leakage but is there anything...
Hi All,
My mate text me this picture asking what lamp this is? as I'm predominantly on the Industrial/ maintenance side and don't have access to a time machine .... I haven't got a clue.
If there's anywhere to find out its gotta be on here, I've been lurking long enough to know that by now...
Hi all,
I am a bit new here. Just had a quick question.
In my living room the lamp is not working any longer. I touched/turned it a bit and it went on again. Then it went off again. This time I tried turning it but when I let go the whole turned/spinned the other way around that I was turning...
We have a square at my works that is used for events and functions. This square has 3 lamp posts around it that have supply's via a commando style outlet which are all supplied from a local DB on a 32 RCBO.
Our technician has highlighted there is no discrimination between the 32A RCBO on the DB...
Evening all,
I changed the lamp in my dining room (ceiling light) for an LED one this evening.
When I took the old bayonet out, I noticed the plastic around the outside of the lamp holder was very hot. Could this just be due to the fact it was an old incandescent lamp therefore giving off a...
Hi there,
I have been shortening some leads around my house so they look a bit nicer and tidier.
I am about to to the same to my lamp cable but i notice it has no earth.
Is it still OK for me to cut the cable and re wire the plug?
Also why doesn't this one have an earth?
Thank You.
Hi all
I've got a knackered ceiling lamp holder I want to change. It's the type with no flex - the lamp holder is directly on the ceiling mount. But the new one I want to put in will be rose-flex-lamp holder.
There are no markings on the old one I'm replacing. So what's the easiest way to...
I have searched the web and end up getting confused. Thus thought I should pop in and pick the brain of the knowledgeable mentors and trainees. I understand the requirements of ignitor in the circuit is to break the resistance of the gases and kick start the process of discharge. What I can't...
I have several vintage lamp holders and would like to use them because they have a good look. I found these earth tags (Earth Tag For 10mm Allthread Rod [PLU95920] - https://www.lampspares.co.uk/earth-tag-for-10mm-allthread-rod) and wondered how to attach them to my lamps for them to work. Is...
I really wanted to keep using my led lamp for my plants. So I bought a new charger. Altough I couldnt find a 8.4V charger, so I bought a universal charger. I tryed the setting on 7.5 Volt and I tested it for 5 min. But now I read on the internet that li ion batteries can explode and catch flames...
