I'm trying to install a pendant (single bulb) in a ceiling light fixture. I've run into an issue with the wiring of the fixture box.
Here's the setup of the wires:
5 green wires (never hot, I suspect ground)
5 white wires (never hot, I suspect neutral)
5 brown wires (one is hot but they are...
Just interested in peoples thinking on using the neutral through the earthing system like I came across today. I've come across many wrong polarities tripping mcbs before but not this.
The outside front door light live conductor was wired into the lightswitch inside but the neutral was wired...
This switch controls 2 outdoor lights. The lights each have 2 live, 2 neutral and 2 earth's plugged into them.
This switch didn't work and when I looked behind it was wired like this!
Anybody know how this should be wired??
Thank you!
Hey folks
Apologies if my question is too basic. I am an Electrical Engineer but do not work in the field. I am looking for feedback to ensure safety.
I have a dimmable floor lamp that uses Halogen lights. It takes 300 Watts or 500 Watts Halogen lights that run on 110Volts
The dimmer stopped...
Hi all.
DIY question. I've gone to replace a broken pull chord light in my bathroom (switching off mains power at MCU and testing before touching with a Voltage Tester Pen).
There are 2 exposed red wires from two separate sets of housing, an exposed earth wire and a neutral wire that is...
Hi all you guys out there. i have a Toyota Coaster converted to a motorhome and I love it however I have an issue with brake warning light not extinguishing. From what I understand ,and after looking at the schematic, the lamp is on when either the hand brake is applied or brake fluid level is...
Hi everyone, I'm new to the industry(Qualified a few months ago). I have a client with 6 LED light fixtures on the same circuit/breaker, 3 are working fine and 3 seem to have a neutral fault(230v live to earth,+/-90v neutral to earth and +/-130v live to neutral).
The rest of the installation...
Happy belated Xmas everyone. Need a little help with faulty kitchen light….does not fully light up and have taken the cover to see if I can replace the lighting strip but have never done this before and need a little help. Would I need the motor element aswell? Where best to source it from?
Hey all,
I installed two LED SAL double spot lights (with no sensor) and the customer rang and said they are glowing at night when the switch is off. I looked in to it and i found the term ghosting. They are not two wayed but they are switched together.
Has any one eles had this problem?
What...
Good evening.
My son in law has moved into a 5 year old house with a conservatory. There is a 3 core and earth lighting cable poked through from the house into the conservatory which has never been attached to a light fitting. There is only ONE switch serving this light NOT two.
My question is...
Hi There, not certain if I'm in the right place but here I go ! I have 4 LED ceiling (4 X 9 watts, 110 V AC) lights that are currently working on a 3 way regular 3 pole switche configuration. I want to make a change by installing push button switches on a plaque that will be installed on the...
I have a double light switch where one switch is terminated into a wago clip. I'd like to replace these wagos with a socket as I'm not sure what sort of light to put on there.
Is there a socket I can use that can be controlled by a dimmer switch?
Hi.
I've just had my a big renovation done and I stupidly forgot to tell the electrician to include a lighting circuit for the kitchen cabinet lights. These can go directly into a plug socket but I would prefer for it to be controlled by the main wall switch, without having to use an app or...
I've have had a lot of experience of "DIY house electrics" (changing sockets, adding sockets, lighting circuits etc.) over many years but what happened to me yesterday has completely floored me. We have a single ceiling light in the bedroom with a single one way switch. There also a couple of...
Afternoon all...
The customer has a number of small green lights in the ceiling that are always on. This is a bed and breakfast/hotel.
I had assumed they were emergency lights, although the only emergency lights I have come across before are ones that only come on when there is a power cut...
Hi,
Currently just have one light in the bathroom ceiling, a shallow dome with 13W mini fluorescent bulb. The room is 3.65m x2.30m. The ceiling is relatively low at 2.15m. We want the room brighter, and I think the best solution is going to two lights rather than just one brighter one. Maybe...
Just an observation.
Staircase serving 5 storeys….. how to turn on the light from any floor?
See saw type rocker switch set into the ceiling and two really long bits of rope.
I thought it was a pulley system for the servants of old to take heavy objects up to the guest bedrooms…. So I...
