First post and Newly qualified, been asked to complete an EIC/EICR on a property after previous electrician carried out the work but never gave a certificate for pretty much a full rewire.
I had a quick look when I popped round, and from what customer says, there is a 32Amp ring main for...
I have just been in the process of changing some old 12v halogen downlights in the bathroom for bathroom for mains volt leds.
My late father was a retired spark so know a little of doing some basic things.
The previous downlight transformers had been wired into a choc block which was just...
I'm building a "media wall" type structure, to house TV, av equipment etc, with alcoves each side lit by Led downlights and I'll be extending my ring main also as part of the build.
My question relates to clipping cables to the ceiling plate (2x3 timber) - is it acceptable to run 1mm T&E...
Hi,
I have bought a LED Lighting Strip (20 metres) to sit inside some Screwfix coving for my bedroom.
Although it will be controlled by the remote control that came with the kit or the app, I would like to use one of the switches in a 1 gang/2 switch to turn it on and off at the wall before...
Hi all, I need some advice for am2s retake I failed the lighting and data circuit and have no idea why! I wired the lighting with a neutral at each switch like the specification says, I am wondering if it was because I put the earths in connectors do these need to be connected into the back of...
All CPCs on upstairs and downstairs lights were live due to the cpc of upstairs being disconnected from earth bar. I was getting 230v between cpc and neutral at the light, the 2 circuits are separate and the rcd never tripped, anyone had this before or know why this would happen
What are your guys thoughts on this a 13amp FCU feeding of a ring feeding a light. I know usually people fuse at 3amp but if unlikely to cause overload does it actually have to be fused down?
im figuring out my upstairs lighting circuitsto tidy it up and get rid of the old JB's the upstairs lighting circuit is a mish mash of 1.5 and 2.5mm2 cable mostly 2.5mm2 which is annoying as 2.5 wont fit into the down light push fits i have.
but the white wire is confusing me a bit
1st pic...
Hi there I have a problem with rcd tripping in a department store, I changed 2 old board which where re wire fuses to dual rcd boards which all the other circuits stand but 2 circuit breakers which one does a few track lights for display and the other does 2 led tornado fittings when I energies...
Trying to fix my mates lights. Keeps tripping I thinking the connecter block can't handle the Amps cause its 3 circuits going to it.
Am I right. What size of connecter block should I use.
Hello everyone,
An EICR failed due no RCD protection at all(only 3036 fuse), no bonding on gas and water, small csa earthing conductor. All will need to be bring to BS7671 standards.
The lighting circuit is on 1 mm2, does it need to be increase to 1.5 mm2 to meet the standards(e.g. lighting...
Simple replacement of an old noisy fan. Should have been rip the old one out, put the new one in. Only change is the new fan has a timer overrun which was chosen due to the old tenants leaving it in for so long it eventually went bust. The old fan didn't have a timer.
Anyway... I've got the new...
Typically the EICR I fitted in this afternoon because I'd hoped it would be fairly simple (new build home, 2007), turned out to be the only recent one that's thrown up a major FI.
Downstairs lighting circuit, 1mm T&E, currently on a 6A MCB
R1+R2 fine, insulation test L&N -> E an immediate...
No CPC at switches or light points.
All lights are class 2 so a C3 on eicr.
But what do I write for r1r2, just a LIM? is that acceptable?
bit confused on this.
Having a brain fog moment this morning.
I've just finished installing some new outside lights on a new circuit, and I need to do an RCD Test on the circuit.
The RCD covers this lighting circuit + 3 others, one of which is a radial socket circuit in the garage. I obviously want to make sure...

Had a look at a job today to replace 5 x 1000W halogen floods with LED equivalent in a big agricultural shed. 4 inside, 1 outside, all high level.
The 4 inside are controlled by a 4 gang grid switch, across 2 circuits on 16A breakers.
The lights themselves have a 13A plugtop and are plugged...
Went for an ECR check and found no earth on lighting circuit, board just been updated last year (Wylex 10 way RCD board), phoned the landlord and said someone recommended to put class 2 fitings but walls have metal capping and switches and accessories are brass/ metal fittings but the code is...
