We have just been to quote for a job :party:where the customer wants a wall mounted system. I have no issue with this but it got me thinking about the wind load calculations - everything I have read is to do with Roof-Mounted systems. Can anyone advise whether they will be required for wall...
Just bought a 2-way hager metalclad enclosure, and 2 rcbos to fit, but the buggers wont fit in the enclosure as the DIN rail has been mounted too high. Anyone else had any experience of this? Im going to drill out the rivets on the DIN rail and drop it half an inch and re rivet it, but what a...
Doing a rewire at the moment in an empty house. I am using RCBO's mostly so when i got 1 room complete i wired the 4mm radial into the RCBO so we could get the kettle going.
After several brews i went to disconnect it only to find i had wired it into a 6 Amp RCBO!
The trip never operated once...
Is there any diversity re overnight circuits when calculating total load. I can see that for shift workers it could be possible to have a shower whilst someone is cooking a roast whilst the storage heaters are demanding juice but.....
How on earth do I configure the TL inverters to utilise the relay inside the housing on the SMA TL (most TL models). I want to use a contactor in the CU to dump the power to a resistive load of a water heating element or a room heater?
I believe this can be done via Sunny Explorer and Bluetooth...
Looking at a job at the minute which is only for 3 IP rated double sockets down a garden.
Problem is the garden is almost 35 meters long, then its another 21 meters from switch fuse in the house.
Anyway, what I need to double check is when choosing cable sizes for my runs, what is best to...
Just pondering my voltage drop calcs for a fused spur off a ring final. Additional circuit will be around 15-20m long so I though I should do this properly....
My problem is calculating the voltage drop in the existing ring to the point of the spur which of course depends on distribution of...

What design loading should be assumed for a kitchen. Washers/Dryers are easier to consider, but someone may decide to boil the kettle, whilst making toast, and putting on a combination oven/microwave at the same time, so should a lower diversity be applied to kitchen circuit than standard.

Has anyone out there got a simple spreadsheet to calculate wind loads on PV and ST panels. MCS are picking up on this more and more and I'm struggling to find something suitable.

I installed some Robus fire rated downlights in a customers bathroom about 5 years ago. I get a call from her to say one of the fittings exploded.
I thought at this point I'd better go round and have a look and sure enough the metal surround had fallen out and smashed on the floor after the...
Hi Everybody,
We just moved into a detached house in last friday, only to find that the RCD keeps tripping for no reason :S I have had an electrician out who checked the RCD and said the box is fine.. and must be the sockets.
We unplugged every item in the house and tried to turn the socket...

Hi All,
I face a strange problem in the converter transformers connected to 11 KV sub station. There is abnormal variation in humming sound of the Transformer 11KV/520 V, 2.25 KVA Dd0 feeding to converter/ inverter drive for rolling mill stand motors. Another transformer 11KV/520V, 4.5 KVA...
Domestic CU change, TN-C-S. Lighting circuit has an Extractor Fan with Electronic timer installed. When performing IR test on the lighting, should i just test the whole lighting cct between L & N (connected together) and the CPC - I do not want to remove the cover of the extractor to disconnect...

Given the last post has been closed I'd like to continue the thread, without the bun fight, if I may.
Tis true that the common element, pardon the pun, in basic electrical calculations is the resistance of the element.
But how do you assess that resistance accurately when most appliances are...
Hello there i wonder if anyone could offer any advice on a problem I am having:
Although not a qualified electrician, I recently swapped out the old Wylex re-wireable fuse board in my house and replaced it with a split load dual rcd board. Before anyone tells me off, I am not a complete novice...

Hi Guys,
During a visit to a rented property on behalf of a local agent it was noted that the RCD in the split load board was 100mA. The property is a 1st floor flat, PME and the protected circuits are cooker & sockets. It's a Proteus board with a beast of an RCD that swallows up 4 ways...
Gents,
Can anybody advise me on the max CCC of 16mm2 T&E, 8 meters in length clipped direct. Its a sub-main to a consumer unit. Ran off the sub board is a 32amp ring, 2 x 6 amp lights, 2 x 20amp socket radials, 10 amp boiler supply and a 40amp shed supply and smoke detection(6amp).
Cheers
Hi All,
I have a site that I believe will be overloading the curent supply and board main switch and would like some input to check my figures.
The client runs a software design company and useage of PC's, monitors & servers is very high. The main intake is rated at 100A BS88 fuse and the supply...
