hi just wondering if you can become qualified to pulling a main fuse so to isolate a distribution board, i know its supposed to be done by the suppliers, is there anyway around this?
thanks in advance
Hi, I am doing a rewire at the moment. Adding all of the breakers up and dividing by 0.4, gives me a total load of 71a. I will be upgrading the meter tails to 25mm and the main earth to 16mm.. The main fuse is 60a. My questions are;1 how would I go about getting the main fuse uprated? or can I...
I have just a kitchen extension to do, where the property had an old rewireable fuse board. I pulled the main fuse to change the old board and found that the main fuse at the head was a BS3036 type.
Is this a problem?
I know the industry is trying to get away from 'rewireables' within the...
I have a place in portugal in an apartment block and the power has gone off twice yesterday. The fusebox in the apartment itself is not tripping out.Next to the fusebox is an isolating switch which then goes out in to the public stairwell and connects to the meter. The meter is then attatched to...
Hi just writing a cert and got to the main fuse.
The main fuse has written on it isco, series 3 ?
but does not say which type or its short circuit capacity, anyone any ideas ?

I have tried on a number of occasions to obtain the BS(EN), Type, Rated Current and Short-circuit capacity for the supplier's main fuse from the electricity supplier. This is when there is no external identification of the fuse contained in the tamper proof sealed unit.
The answer I receive...
OK, basic schoolboy question!!!!!!
I am used to just opening up a main fuse carrier to determine the fuse rating.
If this is not possible I will go by the stated rating labled on the carier. (often wrong anyway)
I have quoted to instal a power shower in a flat with storage heaters...
I know many electricians install CCU's and or Isolation switch without pulling the main Cut Out Fuse.
I was wondering how this is done if needed.
And also wondering your thoughts on this matter.
Thanks all.
Ok, installing a new cu, leaving old one in place. They currently have 60A main fuse. With the new demand added the total MD is now 86A.
Do I just ring up the supplier and get them to change the fuse and meter tails to 25mm where needed. Can I then keep the 16mm out of the henley block to each...
I over looked a job today and I saw a situation that had me thinking...
Basically it was a 6 way consumer unit that was about 15 years old and has a BS 4293 100A RCD fitted. Now the main service fuse was rated at 60A i think. Now what can be done in this situation...
The consumer unit needs to...

hey chaps, just need a bit of advice. Had a CU and PEB upgrade job today. Arrived at the job with a 10 way board to discover whoever quoted the job didnt account for the fact that a 10 way was miles too big for the space. and there was no means of isolating the installation. A...
Hi Everyone
We All Know You Should Not Pull The Main Fuse, Its Down To The Big Boys From The Board.(in A Perfect World)
But If You Didnt Have A Double Pole Switch Fitted, And You You Needed To Pull The Main Fuse To Disconnect Main Tails In Front Of The Inspector From Niceic, Do You Think...
Hi people,
I recently issued a cert with a maximum demand calculation of around 80A for a 60A main fuse. Although the fuse will last well over 10'000 hours at 80A, according to regs, at what point do you decide on upgrading the fuse? I also assume the elec board would have to be notified to...
