Just been to an inspection today, as with many of them its suffering from a bit of DIY, bathroom downlights are above 225, so are out of zones, but are not IP rated, so I will probably give them a C3 ? They are double insulated but the earths have been nicely snipped out so are discontinuous &...

Hi All.
I've been undertaking a PIR/EICR and the property has a load of old Hager BS4229 RCCBs on various boards. Can anyone tell me if this is a switch on a Hager BS4293 RCCB and if so, what it is for? I've spoken to Hager and sent them the photo and they don't know?! The switch is to the right...
Evening all.
Just had a callout to an immersion heater making wierd knocking sound within 30 seconds or so of being switched on. Seems to be the thermostat in the dry pocket and if I hold the thermostat then the knocking stops.
Polarity, voltage etc correct. Top 22" immersion heater...

We're know for being patient, courteous and have great customer care but I'm finding myself getting ever so slightly exasperated.
It's killing us to get panels, inverters, deliveries, subbies to forego some of their other work to help us out. We've turned down loads of customers to keep our...
Hi all back on night shift
The current to a tungsten-fileament lamp at the moment of switch on = is it is lower than the running current or significantl greater than after a second or so
Hi Chaps....
Just been going through some plans for a loft conversion. Standard sort of size 3 bed property (4 with loft conversion)
And they've specified x 9 smokes throughout - everywhere apart from kitchen ! and 2 x bathrooms.
Not sure what to make of that really, bit excessive maybe ? Not...
Need a new voltage tester, been looking at the Megger TPT220, but it seems like the T5-1000 comes highly recommended.
The Megger has an RCD/FI test function that allows for the simple testing of 30mA RCDs, RCBOs and safety breakers. A test between phase and earth on a circuit protected by an...

hi all, im currently carrying out F.E.T's to alot of bus stations around the country and today came across a right old rusty metal clad mem 4 way sinlge phase db. The location of the db is in a feeder pillar outside but sheltered from the weather. The db is rusty as its about 15-25 years old...
Hi all, this may be a no brainer for some of you, I have a job on a farm that has the mains from the house to a workshop where there is a sub main in old 3036 fuses, none of this is a problem as I will be upgrading the sub main board , I want to run another sub main from the sub main in the...
stuck on site without OSG? want to know the max, Zs for a certain MCB?
multiply the MCB rated current by 5, then divide into 230 = max. Zs. ( uncorrected)
That is for 60898 type B. for C use x10, for D use x20.
then x 0.8 for corrected value.
e.g. 60898 type C , 16A ........ 230/(16 x...
Hello chaps
Did a visual safety check at a house today. All seems ok, except for the lighting circuit. Who ever installed/re-wired the system has used 2.5mm cable.....to me it seems a bit overkill, but could this be used to try and cover an issue that its previously had.
Is this ok?
Not...

Hi all, just to let you know, I passed my assessment today with Elecsa.
Nice chap, asked sensible questions and did not try to catch me out with trick questions.
Somewhat relieved, after 2 years of trying to get a job in the industry, I can now work for myself, just have to find the work...
