C type MCB time and Log logs

Hi guys Have a circuit its OCPD is a C type 80A 10ka 60898 MCB with a pfc of 1.11ka. On the log log graph for this device I’m struggling to understand the time for it. It only goes to 800a? I’ve spoken to the NICEIC who say it would operate withing 0.1 seconds but I’m struggling to see how...

How do I enter reports when two circuits are in one MCB

For example the house today had two lighting T&E in the same MCB. I know it's fine, but as I test both 'radials' where and how do we enter them on an EIC/EICR form on the NICEIC online certification thing? I can make extra lines on the circuit chart, but do we write them down as MCB-8a MCB-8b...

    Correct MCB sizing or not

Hi, I recently discovered at my brother in laws that he has a circuit which feeds a outbuilding, but we also discovered that it’s attached to a small part of the downstairs sockets towards the rear of the house! The concern is this outbuilding then goes on to feed another small shed.. is this...

Wiring an MCB beetwen RCD and Main switch

Good evening, I wondered how the MCB between RCD and the Main switch is wired while watching this video. Photo attached. I assume a busbar link is connected to the main switch and mcb. Do the line conductors and the busbar connected at the same terminal and then go to the RCDSs? Link to the...

    Rats and tripping MCB

Can i just check something. If a rat decides to chew a cable will it trip the MCB or RCD ? I ask because I had one house recently that had a randomly tripping MCB and it turned out to be a chewed cable. I was surprised as i would have thought it would trip the RCD but it never did. A chewed...

If a type B MCB doesn't trip unless 5x nominal rating is hit, what's to stop the cable burning up?

Just reading through my Student's Guide and wondering about nominal amperage. If guaranteed trip is 5x nominal amperage, what's to stop 2.5mm cable on a 20a radial circuit from running at 70a or something and completely destroying the cable/potentially your house?

Lighting circuit trips RCD but not MCB, can’t find E-N fault

Long shot but thought I’d try, have a lighting circuit that trips the RCD as soon as the neutral touches the neutral bar for said RCD. Bypass that and it works fine just on an MCB so would think earth-neutral fault, but doing an IR test between N and E shows as a pass (>99M ohm). So unsure of...

    Hottub mcb selection

The hottub is 8.1kw so will be 35A max output , I’m going to put it on 6mm 3core swa to an isolator then to the hottub. Would a 40a b type be sufficient for this ? Or would it be better to put it on a 40a c type mcb? Thanks

How to calculate an MCB size

I am doing a campervan conversion and have a 16A/250V shore power connection coming into a consumer unit which has two breakers - one for the AC input into a Victron Multiplus inverter and the other to go to a plug socket for non inverter loads. I would like to know how to size the MCB for the...

UK RCD rating in Sub board less than suppy protection

I have a 40amp RCD downstream of a 50a MCB (10mm csa cable) should the MCB be lowered to protect the RCD from overload? If so why does this not apply to RCD devices in Split Load boards

    Smeg 19.5kw 53amp mcb

Evening , got to wire in a smeg 19.5kw TR4110IGR Using diversity I work it out to : Total load 84.7 Diversity: 10amp 30% of 74.7= 25amp Total = 36 I would fit 40-45amp breaker on 10mm clipped direct. No insulation and no cooler socket ? Am I missing something with Smeg and why they want 53...

    Boiler circuit 16A MCB

I'm following a spark who used an existing Panel Heater circuit, for new gas boiler circuit 6 months ago. The panel heaters were removed, so it's now a dedicated boiler circuit. I'm doing an EICR. I've found a number of faults; 1. No grommet in Consumer unit knock out, used for gas bonding (It's...

2.5mm2 on with CPC cut off to 32amp mcb Is this normal ?

Hi, A question to all the sparkles out there who could explain this mess to me please. Bought a house built in 2000’s found this 2.5mm2 cable running to loft for radial sockets via FSU ( they had 3 amp fuse in there lol ) connected to mcb 32a as you can see for some reason they decided...

    SPD's need their own MCB?

Hi, now everything is SPD's I've been told they need to be on their own MCB. So incoming line goes through the main switch then busbar then MCB and into the SPD, SPD neutral joins into the incoming top of the main switch, and earth attaches to the CPC busbar. I think. What stops the MCB...
