Hello all,
The appliance is a display fridge. Three phase on its own circuit.
As soon as it is turned on at the isolator the display flashes and mcb's immediately trips.
This appliance has only just developed this fault.
All connections look ok at the appliance and three phase plug.
Could a...
how many of you check those electrium mcb's to see if they were on the recall list , did an EICR today and found these they were in a school where the original electrical company had gone bust they stated the were a small qualntity that were burning ye right ,few more than that i found four in a...
I give these out to some of our younger electricians in the aim to get them familiar with such values. Probably old news to most of you fellas but sure it won't do any harm. Calculations from BS7671 anyway, just handy to have a hard copy other than BGB.
Cheers
John

Hi there
Local church
TT system,
CU with RCD as protection as main switch.
Had a problem with the dishwasher tripping the RCD when running a intensive program, but that is a other issue.
the main issue is when the RCD has tripped, you cannot reset it.
There usually is no power on the...
Been sent a link for RCBO'S, Lad I have been on site with has tried them and swears by them for the cost.. Personally don't buy consumer units and associated breakers on-line for obvious reasons.
Anybody else used them?
TYPE B - 10kA, Consumer Units, Fuse Boards, Fuse Box, MCB, RCD from...
I am putting up 2 security lights, 1 front 1 back and for ease of cabling It would be best to take each light into the cu separately and share the mcb.
Is this allowed??
Can anybody help me with this......I understand the concept of the equation I2 ≤ Iz1.45, however what I’m not sure about is how we obtain I2?
The way I understand it could be either by multiplying In by 1.45 or multiplying In by 5 (which would be the worst case scenario of the MCB’s tripping...
Can anybody help me with defining the difference between the tripping factor (1.45) of a BS EN 60898 Type B MCB and its characteristics relating it tripping between 3 – 5 times the full load current?
Thanks
Steve
Hi All,
Can anyone help me out with a problem I have.
I have to install 2 extra 3ph industrial sockets on a circuit which already has 2 existing on it.
The 3ph MCB protecting the existing 2 is rated at 32A so could it hold an additional 2.
The circuit will be protecting / supplying 4...
As a semi-retired M.I.E.T. engineer, I'm wondering if replacing MCB's in a C/U counts as notifiable under Part 'P'.
Or is it non-notifiable as it's a like-for-like replacement as per first item in Table 1?
Hi people,
Could one of you lovely people tell me the maximum cable size that you can fit in a three phase new style wylex circuit breaker. I have a board to change that contains a couple of 16mm 25mm cables but also one 50mm and the main incomer is 50mm also! What are people using with...
Testing a sheltered scheme with some old MEM boards, black mcb's, white button, little red button you know the ones. Have the folowing Icn values 5A - M1 anything above M1.5.
Lovely SubStation amongst the bird tables out back so PSCC is up there at 4.summat kA
Does this mean on a short circuit...
I know its a long shot but does anyone have any MEM C20 or C32 . 30mA MR30 breakers in stock / spare? Iam not looking for the add on pod version changing mcb to RCBO, as the cost I could change out the board.

I have been giving revision papers for my fault finding exam tomorrow. Here is one of the questions that i dont get. "How would you check shock protection of an MCB?" I was thinking MCB's dont provide shock protection, they just protect the circuit conductors! I know an RCD provides shock...
Hello all,
I decided to have a look inside my CU to see if I could work out which MCB was supplying what. I thought it would be fairly straight forward but its not! :rolleyes4:
My aim is to fit a new up to date CU when I complete my Domestic Installers course as I want to practise for a while...
Ok, we all see it on lighting circuits when there is one supply for upstairs and one for downstairs (2-way lighting). How many of you...
1) Rewire so that both lighting circuits are on 1 supply
2) Just ignore it, as the regs say that having upstairs and downstairs on separate supplies makes a...
