Hello. I am located in the Maryland, USA and have no real electrical experience. I just replaced my Nest video door bell with another non-subscription based brand. It went well, except that the original doorbell was tightly fit into a corner by the builder and I discovered that the new doorbell...
I bought a single LED bulb today and was suppressed at the cost. As I'm intending to move over to LED which means changing all the bulbs in the house I'm looking for the best place to buy from and that means service not just price.
Hi, we've bought a house which has the light switches in the reception rooms behind the door - we don't want to rehang the doors to open the other way as the rooms are small and it obstructs furniture.
I've had a few quotes of £100-£200 to move the lights switch to a different wall but one...
Good afternoon,
So earlier this year I passed my Level 2 Electrical Installation course and I'm due to start my Level 3 next month. However, my Level 2 course was provided by City & Guilds whilst the Level 3 I'll be doing next month will be provided by EAL. Would this be a problem for when I...

Have a double socket on one side of wall which needs to be on opposite wall 6m away. Can I swap out twin socket for a junction box/blank and then run twin an earth via trunking on top of skirting to new socket location?
Many Thanks,

Hope you are all having a good weekend.
I've been asked to quote for a rewire and at the moment the CU is at the side of the house. Because the house is being reconfigured the client wants the CU moving to the middle of the house in a what will be a services cupboard.
I've not had to do...
Hi guys, hoping you can assist with your combined knowledge.
So i need to put in a new board, after doing an EICR there was no RCD protection on the sockets and the tenant frequently uses the sockets for outdoor electrical equipment. The board is old anyway.
So i was going to put in a new...
Hi guys. Looking for abit of advice. I'm Irish and qualified with 2 years. And have a few different courses under my belt. My girlfriend and I are thinking of moving to london as she was offerd a job. I have experience in domestic and industrial. Basically I just want to know what I need to do...
EICR today which will need a new CU and clearly I am going to struggle to replace the CU where it is because of height limits - voila:
Current board is 21cm high and can't find any board wider than a garage board that will fit because of the curtain rail...
Makes sense anyway to move it...
Hi everyone.
Sorry if this is in the wrong category, one of my friends recommended me to post here to get some advice in the current situation i'm in.
I've recently came out of college, after completing my level three diploma with city and guilds for electrical installations (October 2020ish)...
Hi, I’m about to get some fitted wardrobes installed which will cover 2 plugs sockets. The wardrobes will be fitted wall to wall, so only front fascia visible
It has been suggested to move the plug sockets to the front outside face of the wardrobes ( the end units will have stable doors and...
Hi all,
Moving a socket on a ring 30cm sideways. Depending on how the cables come in, was going to through crimp the t & e, heat shrink over it and put it in some capping/oval conduit, bury in wall and then plaster over.
This sound acceptable?
Cheers
Hi Guy,
I’ve contacted my DNO Scottish power and they’ve quoted me a price of £760 to move my connection point and meter. I seem to be doing most of the work with them pretty much terminating it.
I’ve been looking for someone else to do the work as I’ve believe it’s ‘contestable’ but I’m...
Question.. If a consumer unit needs moving by 1 metre and all the cables need to be jointed through, is a full EIC needed as if its's a consumer unit replacement? Cheers
A tree limb has grown in diameter and is rubbing against the line that comes in from the pole. As you can see in the photo I could move the clamp on my mast higher. This would free the line from contact with the tree. Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? (The limb in question is 20 feet...
Got a customer of mine, small sports club with a 3 phase supply. Rang me in a panic this morning. No power. Diagnosed supply problem over the phone. Said call UKPN
They found the problem. A damaged joint right on the boundary of the building. Almost half under it apparently. They’ve said...
Hi all,
I would like to find out an average price on how much you guys charge to move a light fitting? Property is less than 2 miles away, upstairs bathroom fitting to be moved, loft is accesible.
Is it just me that keeps opening the top advertising banner whenever I go to use the site nav on the top left (on mobile)?
Any chance the toggle location for the banner can be moved (or the banner removed entirely)?
Hopefully you'll get what I mean by the screenshots
Hi guys
I’m looking at moving to New Zealand as soon as Covid allows and just have a few questions regarding required qualifications to work in NZ...
