I have got 17th edition, NVQ 3, 2360 part 1 and failed 1 exam on part 2, never had chance to retake which I regret! But from this can I apply for a JIB card and if so what grade will I get? Been a spark for 9 years never had the need to get a JIB until now all ways had a CSCS.
Thanks
Morning to all the good people out there.
When insulation resistance testing using Megger MFT 1710, sometimes the value never get to >999, it will keep rolling over random numbers and never settle which i do for about 15-20 seconds and give up. I may expect to see this on older cable but i've...
My grandma has recently had mains smoke alarms fitted to her house by a local charity. The house is over 3 storeys. Each alarm is fed from the lighting circuit on that floor - i.e. all on different circuits, and the interconnect is a single plus cpc going between the alarms. I have never seen...
Check out the pics above; this was a callout to lost power in a factory, found 2 phases out blown 200amp fuses and a quick Meggar confirmed a short circuit between Y and B phases and unusual low readings to earth. id already isolated all outgoings and main switch was off to busbars but still...
Being a tad lazy but have just looked at a 4 way board change.
Seems a bit silly to install a 3 + 4 way dual RCD board and I don't like the thought of a single RCD front end either. It made me wonder if there are any CU's on the market with a RCBO "bundle", say 2 x 32A, 1 x 16A and 1 x 6A...

recently it has come to light that some people frown upon these and don't trust them. I personally think they are handy and use one all the time. so i've made a poll to see what everybody else thinks:
Been working in a big old house, where I needed to lift multiple floorboards for access. Pipes, cables were often touching the underside of the floorboards, so needed to cut with care. Using the Bosch POF cutter to cut between them but it's hard going and the blades are rubbish so not lasting...

Be honest here guys...When you do your testing, do you do it exactly the same as you would during a college assessment on every installation you work on/install
I dont, and I've never known a sparky who does

Just goes to show you that assumption is the mother of all cock ups and a potential death.
I am quite ---- about isolation, I always test conductors even if the power is off, borrowed Neutrals and all that. Yesterday I made an assumption, and it could have landed me in a box. This was the...
Just fitted four kosnic 5w dimmable led gu10 lamps in my bathroom switched via a dimming pull cord, however when dimming nothing happens for a few seconds then all of a sudden they dim right down to nothing very quickly!
Am I right in thinking there may not be enough load of the dimmer to dim...
Ive been asked to install a outdoor socket to a property on a TT system with split load board one side 30ma rcd the other on 100amp ms, assuming to carry on and conect the socket to the 30ma side test and note and inform the homeowner that dual rcd protection should at some point be fitted...
Hi people,
When notifying work on the niceic website I pay £1.50 to notify it then £1.50 for a guarantee. My question is can you get rid of the guarantee payment and how? Im doing a lot of single circuits for a new contract so although it doesn't seem a lot it will quickly add up over time...
