I have a customer who has a dual immersion water heater. The bottom element is on off peak and the top is boost on normal. The customer has PV and wants to use his PV output to heat the water, but only in the summer.
I need to come up with a method for the customer to easily swap the off peak...
Hi,
We're re-wiring a flat that currently has a split load board with an off peak section for some convector heaters and 2 storage heaters. The off peak has its own meter that is radio controlled. We need to rewire the board and put the off peak into a separate board via a henley block, just...
Hi guys, was sent to a job today as someone was complaining their water heater didn't work, it was wired from a smart meter to a Lucy block- then there is 2 supplies- 1 going to main d/b & 1 gong to the heating d/b but the heating d/b only has storage heaters on it and a (weather switch???) the...

Just at job yesterday, small flat conversion, tidy install done about 8 years ago.
Here's a picture of CU:
What you've got is main switch covering the 2 x mcbs on right which do off peak. And RCD in middle which is covering peak mcbs on left.
Never seen this set up before...
Heys guys.
After a bit of advice regarding off peak heating really.
I recently helped my brother with his flat that he bought and done a complete strip out and re-new everything!
Before we got in there, there was just one storage heater in the lounge. He asked for one in each room, obviously...
Hi I was hoping someone could shed light on the wiring of the timer in my daughter's maisonette? I found a wiring diagram of a teleswitch but I can't locate a diagram of this clock which I believe is by Horstman. I understand the live in on the left and the switched live out on the right going...
I'm quoting for job replacing three re-wireable fuse boards in rambling 4 bed house. One of boards has 4 x 20A BS3036 fuse each serving a storage heater and comes of the off-peak side of meter.
The customer wants the cupboard to be tidied up as much as possible.
The two boards on normal...
I have two supplies to a single immersion heater in a customers house he has them both wired into the immersion and turns them on and off accordingly.
ive told him this is not safe.
he has a separate meter for peak and off peak.
now ive searched and was wondering if there is a timer/switch that...

Just after a bit of assistance please, new one for me.
Had quick glance at 3 phase CU today, reference storage heater upgrade.
Unlike a domestic set up couldn't see a separate meter for off peak.
But what I did notice was a couple of little grey cables coming out the right...
does anyone have a basic contol circuit for off peak heating and water. what i am after is a control and timer schematic in order to check a system of a friend. the supplier installed a new meter ( i assume an itelligent one, but have not seen it yet) but he would not elaborate at all on what...
I've changed an off peak CU that had fuses in it to a board with Mcb's . does anyone know how to get around the problem of there being supply only at off peak time or would it be permissable to note it in limitations ?
hi all
a couple of times now ive been asked by a customer to arrange to have the old off peak supply and controll gear removed (after all you pay a higher rate in the day if you have o/p supply).
both times when ive contacted edf energy for removal of the meter they are telling me and the...
when fitting a new off peak db for storage heaters. what is required by the suppliers to allow connection by them. this is on a tt system with a 17th edition db covering the on peak supply and an rcd db off peak .the last time i added an off peak supply was through a single rcd, 2 tier blocking...
I have been asked to test an offpeak cdu but what am I to do with the live tests? Do I calculate using them using ze from on peak cdu? Or do I go back at night!? Lol. Also what about schedule of inspection for functional tests??? Cheers
when it comes to upgrading a cu for off peak supply, would u just measure r1 and r2 and ze if possible and leave measuring zs just calculate it, or would you return when off peak becomes energised? your views will be welcome thanks:)
There are 3 panel heaters which have both supplies connected to it.
The peak supply is controlled via a 4 zone programmer which I' ok with. The off peak supply to each heater is via a contactor in the CU. The switch circuit for the contactor is fed via a 6amp MCB, but can't find where or what...
looking for some advice. got an off peak system, storage heating that isnt working. scottish power replaced there off peak unit and said it would heat up at 3am but still didnt work. is ther any way to over-ride it so i can figure out exactly whats not working. could it be the control unit or...
Can I get away with this?
Did a board change and left two economy seven heaters RCD unprotected. Power supplying them doesn't come on until 00:00-06:00. Just two radials each rated at 16a?
Evening chaps, I've had a good look through previous posts but couldn't find a definitive answer,
Is there a recommended way of doing all the live tests on an economy 7 board? I didn't see an over ride btw.
